Um, looking for a team, I guess?
I'm new here, but I have some skills with a few things - Such as writing and drawing, but I'm looking for people who are also skilled in that respect as well as a programmer.
I have an idea for a story and plot, but I need some people to help bounce ideas off of and improve it. If anyone's interested, or if I can help anyone out, please don't hesitate to private message me and such.
It is then that I am willing to provide details.

Short response: Samples would be nice.Lux Nero wrote:It is then that I am willing to provide details.
Long response: I think many of us would be more interested if you provided samples of your work here. It's a bit vague as to what you're doing and what you can do and I'm not sure you will receive as many offers with an ambiguous skill-set/plan. I do love seeing pictures, personally
(All projects currently on a hiatus of sorts. I blame life.)

I won't repeat what the above post said, so instead, I'll ask you this: Are you looking for a team or are you creating a team?

I apologize, but I've been burned before on deals, so I'm a little wary about trusting in people. But I realize that I have to do so in order for people to see what I can do.Kindred87 wrote:I won't repeat what the above post said, so instead, I'll ask you this: Are you looking for a team or are you creating a team?
Therefore, I shall post a drawing I made to the public today on my DA page from a webcomic I'm drawing.

And yes, I realize my style looks like it belongs on the dueling field (that's actually on purpose but lol), and I've put a lot of my original stuff on here, so yeah.
Here's my fanfiction page:
http://www.fanfiction.net/u/758749/Lux_Nero
I go by the same name there.
As to answer your question Kindred - I would love to start a team of my own, but I have no qualms about joining another team, just so long as people are at least willing to listen to me. I've had a few bad experiences with groups before, but I'm mature, and I can look past the hard times.
So, both.
As for what story line I've got in mind - Think of a combination of the Anime - Baka to Test, the games - Persona (3 and 4), and Pokemon for a base - set in a school where some students are given a special application/tool called Teacher Pets which help aid people in classes and such, but there are some other things these Teacher Pets can do.
So yeah, I hope that helps.

Re: Um, looking for a team, I guess?
Pretty much everyone here has been burned by a team thing before, it happens alllll the time.
Since you seem to be new to game making I would recommand temporaryily joining with some people (or working by yourself) to create a small game. The main goal would be to get a feel for what goes into game making so you have an understanding of what's involved and who needs to do what. It doesn't have to be advanced at all, it's more the experience you are looking for.
I'm not trying to be discouraging at all, but based on experience and observation, it's very easy to come up with an idea and feel all excited about it, but making a game, especially one that is long or complicated or both, is A LOT of work. A lot of games do not get finished even with the best intentions. If you want to succeed, the best way to do it is to understand what it takes to make it happen and the skills learnt while making a small game will go a long way to helping you do that. Do a bit of study and research and test the waters before jumping in head first.

Re: Um, looking for a team, I guess?
Yeah, as Cyanide basically said, it'd be best if you became an intern; joining a team as an assistant or minor contributor so you can learn and experience the big pieces involved in development without having to put in a whole heap-load of commitment. Or, join up with a small project as a main artist/writer, the choice is yours. xD Though I recommend that you ask your team-mates plenty of questions, otherwise, you may not learn as much as you should ><
But if you really want to start your own project, then you'll need to lay out a strong foundation in order to get interest in your project and attract recruits. This foundation in your case would be character sketches, a plot outline, and character profiles. But you don't need to do all of those things. You just need to do enough so that your project is well-established before you go ahead and invite others to the party.
And yeah, I can sympathize with you on the whole "bad development experiences in the past" situation, though I can assure you that the vast majority of the creators and consumers of these forums (I've only been in the Creator's Corner thus far) are sensible, mature people, if not overly-friendly ^^. I theorize that it's because most of the projects here are developed and enjoyed out of sheer creative passion, instead of the "me too" predicament that tends to infest indie development on the 3D scene.
By the way, your musketeer is adorable xD

Re: Um, looking for a team, I guess?
Alright, I suppose I can devulge a few of my ideas so people can get people interested -
Idea 1) The tale of a young man who just entered into a new school where a number of students have a new device/application called Teacher Pets, which help students in their studies (taking notes, finding references, that sort of stuff) and can be used for some recreational abilities. Unfortunately, not every student can afford them (the Teacher Pets are developed by the school, and cost about an additional 25% for tutition). And while the young man in question has just arrived, he finds himself divulged into a mystery involving these Teacher Pets and the students who own them. Would involve some elements of a simple battle system, a stat system for the player (which increases depending on the player's choices (Think like the system in Persona 3 and 4 where you can increase your courage, wisdom and such), and relationship status with some of the characters.
Idea 2) A supernatural mystery - Its the ___th (have to confirm the years) since a great tradgey occurred in a small tourist town, and it just so happens that a number of students from a different highschool are going to a field trip to said town for a week for educational purposes. You play as the highschool's local con artist who finds yourself being at the recieving end of a horrible curse that transforms you into a _______ and you've only got six days to figure out what happened to you, how to cure yourself, and how to get along with the only people who seem to understand you - four people who you've either conned badly in the past, an old friend from the days of your youth, one who seems to be more interested in your transformed form (and wants to have you as a familiar!), and one who wants to investigate this incident and use this as a way to write an awesome story.
Idea 3) A parody of one of the Kamen Rider series (I don't know which one yet) where the main character gets blessed/cursed with one of the rider powers while many mysterious events are occurring (gruesome deaths, destroyed areas, etc). And to make things interesting, the main character is a girl who's not really a fan of Kamen Rider, and get stuck with the power lol.
I hope those ideas are enough to get people interested.
And thanks for the comments on my artwork.

Re: Um, looking for a team, I guess?
That's much better xD. I didn't know that you had multiple plot ideas (even though I have around sixty that I'm gradually developing haha)!
The Teacher Pets idea seems to be lacking something in the summary. Ah, I see it. You don't really explain that much about the mystery behind it all! As it is now, the summary could be about people buying Priuses and the level of outsider interest would be mostly unchanged. You don't need to spill the beans, but you should add a little something about the issue/mystery with the Teacher Pets. If you want more interest that is.
The transformation one is really neat. I think if there was some kind of personality issue that the protagonist had to overcome in order to return to his human form (a fairly common plot device in these kinds of stories), then the story would be at least 5x more interesting. But I'm sure there are other devices that could be used to achieve an equal or even greater result. This is all assuming that you don't have such a thing in your idea already o.O
The Kamen story blew over my head, as the summary seems to cater more towards fans of the series. Perhaps try to make the summary a bit more layman-ish? So that people who have never heard of Kamen Riders can still get really interested.
Sorry for only providing criticism, but thank you for sharing your ideas!

Re: Um, looking for a team, I guess?
Yes, I was going to give more about the mystery, but once again, I don't wanna risk having people steal the ideas that I've got. But I suppose I could explain the mystery I had planned - You see, Teacher Pets can be used for recreational activities, and students at the academy use them to battle each other (yes, its like pokemon, but you only get one Teacher Pet to your name, unless you're right like hell). But the mystery is that several owners of Teacher Pets have been found in the morning beaten to a pulp with the Teacher Pet apps being destroyed in the process, and when this happens to the first person who was nice to you when you first came to the academy, you bring it upon yourself to figure out the mystery behind it.Kindred87 wrote:That's much better xD. Well, he's a conartist, he's only got one friend, and he can't help but scamming people (even on the bus ride to the town). lol.Kindred87 wrote: The transformation one is really neat. But yeah.
And it is for fans of Kamen Rider, I can explain it - Imagine any magical girl series that you've watched, and imagine them getting a power that's related to more suited for a manly character - Still coming up with different ideas with that one, and its one of the weaker ideas I've got up my sleeve.Kindred87 wrote:The Kamen story blew over my head, as the summary seems to cater more towards fans of the series. Re: Um, looking for a team, I guess?
Yay clarifications! You did in fact say that the protagonist in the second idea was a conartist, but it wasn't very stressed that he constantly cheated people and didn't get along xD In any case, if you combine those summaries with the added details/facts in your reply, then you should be good to go.

I see... This appeals to my writer senses,
I see that you've already got several if not many varied plots that you may or may not persue that works well for me and I assume for others as having a general idea at first is very good for progress.
If you are looking for a co-writer, or a if you maybe need someone to help compose music I would be willing to help you, if you too are interested then I would be happy.

lol, indeed.
And while I do hope to get some of my other ideas off of the ground I wish to get one of them done at the moment - And I aim to work with my first idea, hopefully it'll go well.
