Yama nashi, ochi nashi, imi nashi

#1 Post by Arsenic_Love »

You have clicked this board because you belong in group:

1. You know what the topic title means
2.You have no idea whatsoever what the topic title means

So what does it mean? It means Yama nashi, ochi nashi, imi nashi = YAOI.
For those who are in group 2 I will not blame you if you immediately close this board and run away screaming in horror.
Still here? You must be in group 1 (or in group 2 and you just really curious).

Title: Town Festival (working title)
Synopsis: The town festival is on Saturday! With the help of his best friend will Keijou Hikari be able to get a date? Or will things turn out unexpectedly?
Genre: BoyXBoy/ Romance/Comedy
Language: English
Pairings: 5 main guys
Rating: PG (Sorry no hardcore scenes)

I have decided to create a BXB visual novel because there are just not enough original boys love visual novels around. So I thought I might as well give it a go. My main idea is to make a boys love visual novel with great characters, fair art (I’m not the best artist but I think my work at least doesn’t burn your eyes) and humorous dialogue. Even if you don't end up with one of the main guys I want all the endings to be at least amusing if not downright strange.

I have all the sketches of the character digitally inked and a few colored. Almost all the backgrounds are digitally inked. The script still have a ways to go (First time writing a visual novel script and found it a bit difficult) but the main flowchart of the story is sorted out. I have watched a bit of the RenPy tutorial and actually think I will be able to handle the coding since I do have some background knowledge on programming still not quite sure how long it will actually take. And of course no concrete idea yet on scoring.

So where do you come in? I would love to do it all by myself but it will take forever or I might end up just not finishing what I started. I need the following:
1. A background colorist who could possibly help draw a background or two.
2. A demonic editor with a good whip.
3. Basically anybody who wants to help.

Please contact this crazy sock puppet if you are at all interested.

This looks good, though I dont have the appropriate skills to help with what you need, I do look forward to playing this, the game has such a cute title!

I clicked here precisely because I believe that yaoi is just that: No climax, no point, no meaning. But that doesn't mean I want to somehow deter you from making your game. I'm just not going to play it (and am maybe a little disappointed that this thread isn't about how to depict homosexual relationships better than through yaoi).

Thanks. I actually thought that the title was a little too plain. I do need a couple of beta-testers when the game is done so maybe you could do that.

I understand if you don't want to play. I want to make a game that doesn't take itself so seriously and pokes a little fun at the yaoi genre. Yaoi was never meant to depict REAL homosexual relationship in the first place.

I agree with you with someone should create a visual novel that takes a page form Wong Kar Wai's Happy Together and Leesong Hee-il's No Regret. Maybe someday someone will...

OP i'd play your game, and i'm sure you'd find a big enough audience for it, sans the people who apparently clicked your thread just to say they'd never play it. :| That was pretty rude Taleweaver.

It wasn't meant to be rude. OP explained that "yaoi" comes from "yamanashi ochinashi iminashi" but didn't mention what these terms meant in translation: No climax, no point, no meaning. (Some people - tongue in cheek - also claim the true meaning is "yamete, oshiri ga itai", or "stop, my ass hurts".) A game with that actual title that really pokes fun at the typical seme/uke cliché would have been awesome. So I was disappointed to hear that the game will actually be named "Town Festival" (or something like that), a "a BXB visual novel because there are just not enough original boys love visual novels around" and obviously not the approach I hoped it would have when reading the thread title.

Had the title been "Colorist, editor wanted for yaoi game", I wouldn't have made any comments.

Thanks. It's great that people want to play. I just hope I can finish it. I'm still hoping to look for someone to help me backgrounds.

I just wanted my thread title to be unique and kind of funny. I didn't mean to start a controversy or anything. You wouldn't play my game and I'm completely OK with that. So I hope that this is the end and everyone's good.

I see both sides of that- The want for a funny thread title(which did work, sort of), and Taleweaver's idea to poke some fun at the genre. I'm not sure that I would play it either, but I can offer moral support and wishes for a really good game.
I'm going to get off my soap-box now, and let you get back to your day.

Academy Daze- Back in production! Complete with ecchi-ness ;)

It's sorted out anyways. :) Thanks for the support.

Demon Editor from Hell reporting in, if you need one.

Look for stuff labeled 'Bara,' which is to yaoi as an issue of On Our Backs is to mainstream lesbian porn. Only real problem with it is that it's heavy on the beefcake; apparently that's what Japanese gay men tend to be into.
She's sun and rain: She's fire and ice. A little crazy, but it's nice.
