Researchers wanted for Project OPM

#1 Post by Argeus_the_Paladin »

I have been working on One Province Minor for a while now on my own for the most part. The scope of the project is rather large, but compared to many others' work here is nothing to be written home about.

Unfortunately, the project is turning out to be much, much more than I can personally handle. As it happens, the project has been fact-starved from day one. I have done everything I could to model a working economy true to the historical period, but the lack of hard-and-fast contemporary numbers and statistics to compare my model to is creating a great deal of problems.

Which is why I am now turning to the community. What I am looking for is someone to help me browse the internet or otherwise for information relevant on the subject of this game - all aspects of mid-17th century life in an electoral of the Holy Roman Empire. This is not to say I won't do my share of the work, but you know what they say - two heads are better than one, and nowhere is this truer than in researching.

As to where information can be found, Wikipedia is a good start, though most - if not all - of the information the project requires can't be found there. Enthusiasts and specialist sites often carry great amounts of untapped information. If you have access to professional journals, all the better. Most importantly, anything and everything you come up with relevant to the subject matter can be very useful. Things that might seem trivial, such as how many cows ideally grazed on one acre of pasture and how much land on average a German peasant family cultivated in the 17th century, are of vital importance to the reconstruction and modelling effort. As I have been told, when it comes to historical art and historical accuracy, there is no such thing as enough research.

Unlike any other team position, this position requires practically zero commitment aside from what you are willing to spare. Even if you are going to cite one single source and drop out, your contribution will still be meaningful and treasured.

So, is anyone willing to lend me a hand?
One Province Minor - 120 class variables and still counting!

Because there is no such thing as too many variables.

As far as a complete economic model, let me forward this one to my wife and see what she has to say.

In the meantime, this might get you started: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holy_Roman_Empire

Not sure if this is helpful, but these are notes of our history textbook
https://www.evernote.com/pub/bgamer50/h ... 62e2b786ed
Chapters 9~20ish is where we learned about Europe in general, so I'm sure something about the Holy Roman empire is in the notes...somewhere...

Code: Select all

public void thingsILikeToDo(){
	if(!haveWork) { //never runs for some reason
		this.draw();
		this.bake();
		this.sleep();
	}
	else
		this.sleep(); //probably why haveWork is always true
}
