Got music?

Well, it's march now and my schedule is pretty open for new gigs. I'm still working on Valdis Story: Abyssal City but it isn't sucking up all my time like it was 2 months ago.

Now, let me make something really clear... I will NOT work for free. I do "trade" sometimes depending on the scenario, but that's something that would need to be discussed in private because I do not like to publicize my rates, discounts, deals, etc.

I know most VNs are done by hobbyists and typically don't have the greatest budgets in the world. I will work with you depending on the case, but I cannot afford to drop below a certain threshold.

My demo reel has been updated for 2013, however I changed the format of it to include 3 tracks from different projects I have worked on instead of just displaying 20+ random tracks of varying style. :)

If you have a particular style you would like to hear from me and cannot find it by digging around on my profile, let me know and I'll see about getting a sample over to you(assuming I have one).

You can message me on here, or through email at cblockdis@gmail.com though I am likely to respond faster through email.

Thanks for reading/listening, looking forward to hearing from you.

Tootles,
Zack

Your songs are pretty awesome! Keep up the great work, and I hope that you can get a few side songs for fun :)

It'd be nice, but people tend to avoid spending money on the audio in their projects(regardless of the type of project, game, film, etc). They don't ever seem to pay much attention to how expensive everything is that we musicians use for production. New DAW = $200 - $500, upgrade from old version $100-$300. Samples, just for a themed set(percussion for instance), could range anywhere from $100 - $1500, sometimes more depending on which company is selling it. Then there is the matter of purchasing a computer that can handle what you are planning on doing, which usually entails buying a lot of RAM, a lot of drive space(preferably SSD but HDD will suffice), a CPU that can handle the strain of the DAW, sample streaming, and numerous VSTs. Then there is external hardware like power amps, monitors, DSPs, rack mounts(to hold all that other stuff), MIDI Controller(usually in the form of a keyboard)...

I could keep going. ;D

Anyway, I still have some space open for the Feb/March period, and I do offer discounts to my commercial rates(within reason).

Don't be afraid to ask me anything either, I'm pretty chill. :p I won't get offended if you offer some really ridiculously low rate... I might even consider it depending on what you are after.

Tootles,
Zack

Anybody needing a quick track or two now(not for free) feel free to contact me. There's been a delay in development on my current project so while that delay is still in effect I have some free time to write, but only doing this on a per song basis since I have no idea when to expect the other project to start back up.

In the mean time... latest two tracks:

VGM Tribute - "Lil' Chip's Big Adventure" collab. with Calum Bowen

Windhaven - "Flying Away" feat. Amanda Lee(Vocals)

Thanks for listening!

I'm everywhere. ;) I just rarely post outside of this forum and tigsource. :p

Nice to see a familiar face though(figuratively speaking).

Windhaven is so good! Amanda Lee was one of singers I was dying to get for MoSW too! XD

Did you work cloesly with her on it or use the vocals from another one of her songs? Either way, incredible! :D

Not really, all she did was sing. All the music, including the melody in the vocals, as well as the lyrics were done by myself. Was planning on using her again for Valdis Story but she jacked her rates up considerably and the developers weren't willing to pay the costs of it.

She randomly did that to you too, eh? Be happy you got her before she did the "cancel and bring up rates" thing. Unlike me

Out of curiosity, what are your ballpark rates, say for the more ambitious Indie storytellers that have at least some financial backing?

Yeah... I think she saw the kickstarter page for the project and was like... "I'm gonna get in on some of that money....!!" Because they almost hit $50,000 on their kickstarter campaign. Wasn't aware of how successful it was until after they sent me the list for the music, and they had mentioned how many other composers had "applied". I feel quite honored they chose me, because that game is friggin' awesome. :p

Anyway... I'll PM you about the rates....

I too would be interested in rates if that's ok! :D

I'm mostly shopping around at this stage though without making a final decision since the funding is coming straight out my pocket XD

Don't cringe too much now...

I really need to make up a PDF file of these rates so I don't have to keep typing them over and over again...

$500/minute = full rights, you own the music

$250/minute = exclusivity + distribution(as part of a project), I maintain all rights but the ability to resell the music to another entity/project.

$100/minute = distribution rights only(as part of a project), I maintain full rights.

If you have more specific things to ask, like the singer bit(another person asked about), just let me know and I'll elaborate more on the subject.

Thanks,
Zack
