Cheap Programmer For Hire (OPEN!)

#1 Post by briannavon » Mon Jan 07, 2013 12:49 am

Hello. I am a programmer who wants some work to fund my own games. This is my hobby, so It's something I would enjoy getting paid to do.

How Much Do You Cost?

We can negotiate but my prices are generally $20-$50 dollars per month. I like deadline so make sure you have some!

Note : For very small visual novels (like 1000-2000 words) that will take less than two weeks to do and don't need any complicated codes (I will determine what I consider complicated), I'll code them for $10 dollars.

What Are You Comfortable With?

Anything that's not 18+ (I'm a minor so....). I can do BxB , GxB , BxG , GxG or non-romance games.

How Do I Pay You?

Paypal.

What Can You Do?

Well since there is a lot of coding in games, it's easier to tell me what your game need and I'll tell you if I can do what it requires. I am a quick learner, so I study what you need for your game quickly.

Here is an example of some coding I have in my own game :

Code: Select all

 "The Cursed Attack!" if the_cursed_attack and mp >= 400 :
            $ hp -= 400
            if hp >= 0 :
                $ bee_hp -= 1000
                "You defeated the bee!"
                $ honey += 1
                $ bee_hp = 10
                $ xp += 5
                jump forest

            if hp <= 0 :
                $ bee_hp = 10
                jump forest

How Many Programming Jobs Do You Have Currently?

I have two but they don't require much work. I am also doing a framework but it's part time.

Deals

Besides money, I will also code your whole game (no matter how long it takes) if you give me one of these :

8,000 Deviantart Points

Draw art for my games

Disclaimer :

Since 8,000 deviantart points is around $100 dollars I recommend your game need 3-6 months so the deal is a good thing for you.

I am nitpicking. No sane employer would pay per line of code. Usually software contracts are negotiated on a per job basis estimated on a hourly pay rate and assumed completion time.

Is Python the only language you know?

Well, Xenocartographer knows Python, Java/Javascript, PHP, CSS, C++, and a few other languages. Judging by your reaction, I'm guessing Python is the only scripting language you know, which makes the prices you set seem rather steep.

I can be very cheap, these prices are based on what people have offered me so far. Really, no price is too cheap.

Honestly, the rate that briannavon is charging - $20-$50 a month - seems incredibly small, far below the minimum wage, or even what it would make sense for a non-trival project, anything that takes more than a few minutes to code up.

briannavon, it makes sense to accept a price for project based on the wage you think you command, and how long you think it will take. I don't think it makes sense to ask for or accept such small rates - instead, you should skill up until you can command a higher rate.

Yeah, but I'm doing these right now to afford art for my own project. That's the reason I have not waited until I got super good at all those things Klokinater said.My thoughts are: cheaper price = get more work .Plus, I just enjoy coding with Renpy. In fact, I think I've been bugging one of my employers a bit too much about when I get some more work, even though I will get paid the same.

That sounds like a pretty cool deal. I've always wanted to make an RPG visual novel. But, if I took you up on that offer, would I only pay after it's done?

I recommend you keep the prices completely in dollars, though. After all, what is preventing you from using $100 to buy the Deviantart points yourself? Plus, it's easier to track if you just use regular cash.

True but some people might not like to work with money for what ever reasons so just incase , I want a person like that to still be able to hire me (better safe then sorry) . :D

Also, you could pay while I work or after it's done.

That makes sense, though it would probably be FAR more common for someone to have $100 on hand than 8,000 points. Anyway, I should probably get some kind of game plan together before I get serious about this, but it would be cool to have a dedicated programmer on my team who can make something like Winterwolves' simulation or RPG games.
