I started working on a non-serious/parody arctic survival VN about 2 weeks ago, there's virtually no content as of yet but you can grab it at
http://kahdeksan.mylha.com/files/vnthing-1.0-all.zip
I'm now looking for someone who has a vague idea how to draw, because I have absolutely no talent for it.
What is needed:
- map tiles and icons (64x64)
- sky backgrounds (800x600)
- landscape background (800x600)
- character sprites (224x320)
- ui imagebuttons (mostly 128x64)

The character sprites size is rather small. I wonder why.
Well, if the amount of characters is small and simple, I can consider it taking that spot.

You shouldn't downplay your game! Call it arctic or awesome instead of awful.
From what you've uploaded so far it actually seems kind of awesome. I like the idea of the MC being a little eskimo person. How many sprites/etc are you thinking you'll need?

At the moment I only need 3 character sprites:
- protagonist (female, in winter clothing)
- pool-chan (sentient hotsprings. should look cute and innocent)
- merchant (should look like a balding, middle-aged japanese businessman)
Characters are tiny so that there's plenty of space to move them around. And the game isn't from protagonist's first-person perspective, it's more of a camera.

I'm sorry this is actually some old BG I dug up and cropped, but if you have any use for it:

Of course you don't need to credit something like this... If you actually use it.

If you like this style I can refine the sprite for you. I would actually like to do the sprites for you, and I can experiment with the tiles as my spare time allows.

Thank you! Fuzzy hoods are the best.
So here is the sprite at the size you wanted; there's some empty transparent space around the edges but I don't think that should be a problem?
What kind of expressions does she need?

It's not a problem. They're more like maximum dimensions for the sprite.
(although the max width should be 224, not 244. But I can crop it myself.)
As for expressions: definitely a pouting face. And some kind of evil smile.

If you're going to have a sentient hotsprings, it should totally be a person.
I say this now because I realize that you may have wanted a pretty looking puddle with eyes? haha.
Anyhw, this is what I came up with for that.
edit
also adding the business man concept/sketch

A water nymph will also work. The idea is that entering the pool and bathing is in ridiculous hentai-style dialogue where they describe everything in vivid detail despite their "minds going blank" because it "feels so good", so any kind of form will do as long as it's clearly connected to the hot springs.

Outsider comment: I think anthropomoprhization is generally overdone. That said I like this one because it's not the usual "let's make an abstract idea/inanimate object in to a cute and/or sexy girl". The form is bizarre and interesting like it's a hallucination or the spring isn't entirely sure how a human should look. It's inhuman enough that it adds to the character rather making it seem like a cheap trick to make something relatable.

Here's the sprite for the hotpsprings, and another concept for the business man.
Business man version: Eskimo? Thoughts? Suit/fur/boots or just a suit?
Also, here is a 64x64 head like the icon you have up at the top of the post.
