Artist for hire: Backgrounds

#1 Post by Badriel »

Hi, I'm Badriel and I do commissions.

Some previews:

Backgrounds for Intrigue of Houses:

Backgrounds from Clockwork City:

You can also check my deviantart: http://badriel.deviantart.com/

Backgrounds are 30$-75$, depending on complexity of the background.
Simple edits, like changing the daytime are 6-10$ (depending on the complexity of the entire background), every 4th edit is free (So if you want a background that's daytime, sunset, night and cloudy, the last edit is free). Bigger edits, like moving objects around, adding or removing stuff might cost more.
I also make animated elements for backgrounds, like sunrays shining through the windows, clouds moving on the sky, smoke, or some simple animated objects. The prices depend on the complexity of what you look for.

I've got some previews from "Memories of Summer Winds" I have the pleasure to make backgrounds for. Here you can read about the VN: http://lemmasoft.renai.us/forums/viewto ... 43&t=19195

And here are some goodies:

Do you have a typical image size you use for backgrounds?

Also, how do you feel about doing large numbers of BGs, for example, 20 or more?
"We must teach them through the tools with which they are comfortable."
The #renpy IRC channel is a great place to chat with other devs. Due to the nature of IRC and timezone differences, people probably won't reply right away.

If you'd like to view or use any code from my VN PM me. All code is freely available without restriction, but also without warranty or (much) support.

Ooh a plug to MoSW! :D anyway, it's been great working with Badriel so far. He is working at a miraculous speed and the art is fantastic. The original sizes are well above my resolution (1280x720) too.

I haven't counted but I wouldn't be too far away from 20 backgrounds myself (more if you count variations).

Hate to sound like I'm doting on Badriel but I honestly haven't got any complaints, defs recommended if you're looking around for a BG artist :)

The size doesn't really matter, because the original size is usually ~2200x1152
I generally don't mind large numbers. I'll even go as far and say - the more, the better.

Hearing positive things from commissioners is very important, and that was a really good reaction.
I can't commission anyone for 12 months, so I'm just doing research for now.
I hope you'll keep updating your DA gallery with background art.

Your backgrounds look absolutely fan-flipping tastic. You probably can't hear my internet clapping, but it's there.

Clapping.

Your backgrounds are lovely and I truly like the colors you're using. They're so soft and vibrant.

You know, after this long I still never had a look at your dev art until now :( (Also bringing in the Memento Vivere prologue). Such amazing art! It almost makes me want to try resurrect a project from the 'get around to finishing the plot for these' pile just so I can have you do some sprites for me :) All in good time though I suppose, haha.
