Looking to Hire (Paid Upfront) a Visual Novel Programmer

#1 Post by SnowTrain » Sun Oct 27, 2013 7:26 pm

Hello and thanks for visiting this thread! :)

Who We Are
We are a small group of friends who want to make a VN as a hobby. We have the art, the music and the story all in early stages of production but we have no idea and no time (very unfortunate) to program! :(

What is the VN About?
I'm going to give a very very brief description here. It revolves around the themes of "journey" & "belief". It is Anime styled (with slight realism) with a cyberpunk theme and color palette. Our vision is for it to have a diverse cast of main and antagonist characters which will have character growth throughout the story. There will be dating elements however we intend to adhere to ESRB's M(17+) rating. Although it is a hobby for us - we do intend for the VN to "look good". This means, in my opinion, the VN will have quality art (at least the best that we can achieve) and quality music! More details can be discussed in private.

Who We Are Looking For
As this is a hobby for us - expect very flexible deadlines! We do have a tentative "release-date" in mind - perhaps sometime late 2014 or early 2015? The idea, although we are open to any advice since this is the first time we're embarking on this kind of a project, is for us to send our programmer images, music and storyboards in a gradual basis. The programmer then can implement our vision and create segments of the VN over a period of time.

As we don't know if this project is going commercial or not - its only fair and we really prefer to pay upfront/flat-fee to our programmer for his or her work. We are all chipping in and paying for his out of our own pockets and I believe we do have a slightly "sizeable" budget (Indie sizeable!) for this commission. But we're not really familiar with the rates or how it should be organized?

If you are confident in helping us on this project and have experience in creating beautiful looking VNs then please contact me! We are willing to pay well for this! Or if anyone has any suggestions for us in terms of our initial thoughts on how this process of communication (storyboards etc) will work then please let us know as well.

I'd suggest that you hire a couple of programmers if you want the job done fast and if it's a long visual novel.
May I ask what visual novel engine you want to create it on? (Ren'py? Novelty?)
I would help for free, but I'm not very experienced at programming. I only know how to create VN's on Ren'Py.
Katsu!

Hi SnowTrain,

The project looks interesting and looks like it could be a lot of fun though there are a few things you might want to add to your thread.

For example an expected amount of hours per week for the programmer,
amount of work, example: multiple endings, battle system, ect
that is to say things that would take a bit longer to program in.

Now i can't say i have anything direct to show you of my work,
but Id like to apply for the position except as i cannot show you my work, i would be doing the job free of charge, also as a hobby type thing so it wouldn't be full time.
I have several years programming experience in multiple languages. I have been dabbing in Ren'py for about a month but i have worked with python for longer.
I currently have 2 years left on taking my degree in game programming.
I am very confident that I can get the job done by the deadlines.

If you require any more information, feel free to message me any time, either here or in pm

Good Luck on the project

Edit:

If you want the VN made in something other than Ren'py i can also do that, though most preferably would be in C++ if it where to be in another coding language.

This thread can give you a few hints on what people usually expect from recruitment threads.

The information you disclosed so far is the bare minimum of what is absolutely required for a thread in this forum. I strongly suggest you reveal a little more, especially regarding the planned size and scope of the project.

I've actually been looking to start doing programming commissions. I might be interested... Send me a pm with some more details, if you would.

Click the link in my sig to see my latest release; I think it demonstrates adequately that I know how to program a Visual Novel and push the Ren'Py engine to its maximum capabilities.

I won't accept upfront payment though. Payment on delivery.
