Hello! If anyone here's heard of the Twitch Plays Pokemon phenomenon, then this project might appeal to you. (Even if you haven't, if you'd still like to help, we'd definitely love to have you on our team.) Basically called Twitch Dates Pokemon, we're a group of users from Reddit who want to make a parody dating sim based off of Twitch Plays Pokemon. Our art team is pretty small, so we'd like to recruit a few more artists, both for background and sprite work.
If you're interested, please visit http://www.reddit.com/r/TwitchDatesPokemon/ for the main project subforum, and http://www.reddit.com/r/TDPArt for the art team. I'm Indigoness on Reddit, and I'm the art lead, so feel free to PM me here or there to ask me any questions about it! (Otherwise, you can also contact the project leads.)
So, here's the background: On the Twitch Plays Pokemon subreddit, a user named FlyWoods uploaded a "dating sim" parody art of the characters in the game (http://imgur.com/a/SdSwu). Although it was just a joke at first, a few people thought about making it a reality. We ended up forming a group to create the game using Ren'Py with teams of writers, programmers, and artists. The game's plot is a high school-ized representation of the fanmade "lore" that arose based off of the random events of the Crystal playthrough.
The plot focuses mainly on friendship, with elements of (non-serious) romance. The main character is an Espeon named Burrito (gender "unknown" so that the player can date either gender). The dateable characters consist of the other team members from the Red and Crystal playthroughs.
If you haven't seen Twitch Plays Pokemon, it was basically started by an uploader on twitch.tv who started streaming a ROM of Pokemon Red-- he was able to mod the game so that the chat bar inputs would correspond to the ingame button presses. Thousands of people played the game at once by using the chatbox, creating a very random gameplay. The stream gained a cult following, and many artists created comics or images to explain the random events that happened in the game. The team of Pokemon took on personalities based off of the fans' interpretations of their actions, and each game started to develop a theme-- the Red team was jokingly treated as gods, while the Crystal team was considered a ragtag bunch of misfits who wanted to prove their strength against the gods. While it was a series of extremely extended metaphors, it was fun to create a story that came together. This visual novel parodies it in a way, while also working as a tribute to the story we made as a community.
Hope this isn't too "out there"-- I hope you'd like to help! Thank you!
