Recruiting UI designer and/or background photographer

#1 Post by ETERNAL » Thu Aug 26, 2010 11:20 pm

Hey, this is Eternal from the Sepia Tears project (the one that I never advertise because it's nowhere near complete). The Lemmasoft page is here but I couldn't fit a recruitment message into the thread title and I figured it would get cluttered if I tried to do anything more than introduce the project with that initial post.

Anyway, I'm looking for a graphic designer to do the interface and a photographer to do the backgrounds, preferably someone who has a bit of experience with Photoshop and can fiddle with the photos to get the right effect. I'm not sure how difficult it is to design a game's interface, but that position might be a little tricky; I don't have a specific direction I want to take the interface in, so the designer needs to be fairly familiar with visual novel text boxes and interfaces to be able to find something that works. It might very well be that the creative aspect of it is harder than the technical aspect.

The photography position should be a bit easier; there might be some obscure backgrounds that will take a while to find, but we can start with the straightforward ones like bedrooms and streets. I also have some pictures that can be used with the right Photoshop-ing. I have the tools to help out with the photography but not really the ability, so I'd rather put someone else in charge, but I'm all for co-operating. Sadly, I don't have the knowledge to help with any programming or design that goes beyond standard Ren'Py scripting.

I know it's usually discouraging to join a project that you know nothing about, but this game has made a fair bit of progress over the last year and a lot of the labour is already complete. However, it can't look presentable until the basics like backgrounds are in place. From your perspective, this might be a good opportunity to work with Ren'Py and develop your skills without the long-term responsibility and pressure of being project director. Don't worry about strict schedules or having a professional attitude; as long as you're decently skilled and you're dedicated enough to not vanish half way through, you qualify. Email me at admin[at]ephemeraleternity.com if you're interested, or just PM me or leave a message here. Thanks, and feel free to discuss :D
