Girl's Day Out[WIP] Updated! Artist desparately needed!

#1 Post by Crocosquirrel » Thu Sep 16, 2010 3:31 am

Girl's Day out is a fun side note to a larger work I did back in 2006, that I've decided to turn into a VN. It's Chapter two in a full-length novel, so it's a little light on backstory, but I'll get to that in some other entries later on.

This is a little fluff piece involving, of all things, the hunt for a wedding dress. Destiny Marchand is going out today, with her best friends, Summer and Erica(Bunny through most of the work) to track down a dress for Summer's wedding(and their own, too).

There's just one catch: Summer's trying to keep things quiet, in case of reporters. As President of the United Planetary Hegemony, she doesn't want anyone catching wind of her impending nuptials. It's up to Destiny to help get the job done without making a public spectacle of the entire situation.

With Destiny's luck, it's not going to be nearly that easy...

Girl's Day Out: The VN
Completion:
Story: 100%
Script: 50%
Programming: 30%
Art: 0%
Music: 20%

I have someone looking at the story now to see if they're interested in Art, but no Music as yet. GDO is a showpiece, and a demo of sorts for the entire work, Knights of Chaos. Depending on how GDO is received, I may or may not do the rest of the book. For the Backstory, there are two other books I'll have to do, one of which is finished(in novel form), and the other outlined. The entire series will be high sci-fi/space opera, with hard edges to it.

Update: I have the bulk of the work done, at least in story terms, and some music selected, if not placed. I've had a crazy week, and it's still not over, but I'm getting back to things now. New computer means I'm not going to go blind working on it, but my visual art skills are restricted to 3D models, without so much as a consideration of proper textures to do myself. I can use Poser content, but it's expensive in a number of ways. I would prefer hand-drawn art for this format.

There's another, more traditional VN in the planning as well. :)

Send me a PM for details.

Going to work on getting some music tomorrow. Some of the royalty-free stuff I picked up for Nano Empire might go okay here, but most of it will have to be fresh. Scripting continues apace, and it looks like if I bust my butt over the weekend, I can have it ready for artwork Monday night, music included.

I'm just hoping I can talk an artist into doing it all... Lots of character images.

Typically, games that have a female main character are put into the GxB section of the forum. Don't worry though, someone will move it if they feel it should be moved.

It sounds like a great game idea, my girlfriend is a "Say Yes to The Dress" nut, so I can see how girls get excited about this stuff.

Eh, I don't see any reason to move it. Just because it's a female protagonist? Let's not make the divide "girl games/boy games". She's not pursuing a boy, she's already getting married! =P

Are there going to be choices in this novel? Like, multiple endings? Or is it kinetic (no choices)?

Actually, your playing a friend of the bride to be. I agree with you on the categorization though. The G might be there, the xB seems to be lacking though.
It's a story with multiple endings, as far as I know.

This. The xB is most definitely missing, since the bride caught him a decade ago. We do get to meet him, though.

It's our Heroine's job to keep her friend safe and out of the public eye while they shop.

Destiny's just not all that lucky, but she *might* be that good.
There's not really a choice in the dresses, since I don't want to give whichever artist that winds up with it any more heart attacks than strictly necessary. On the other hand, there'll be a bunch of other fun stuff.

I do tackle a couple of issues in the piece, but I'm debating whether or not to approach them directly or on the oblique. The closest we get to H or romance here is is the lingerie section of the store. As for what happens there, I'll leave it for you to find out when it's finished ;)
As for the reason she's trying to keep it all quiet...
Summer's the President of the Hegemony, and doesn't want the fuss that's going to come from the planning of a full-blown State wedding, in which she will have *no* say about anything, including the identity of the groom. The groom here isn't a political powerhouse, after all.
