Seeking Artist for Straightforward Romance VN

#1 Post by Phosis » Tue Sep 21, 2010 3:28 pm

The project I am currently doing alongside my much larger effort is (working title) The Color Of Misery.

There is a very limited amount of characters in the game, which is primarily what I am looking for. Anyone who is interested indoing BG is more than welcome, but if I have to, I will use placeholder stuff, so it isn't a big issue.

The script is about 25 percent done at this point, but it is difficult to gauge, as I am not sure entirely how long it is going to be. It's sitting at around 10,000 words regardless, and it could be anywhere from 60,000 to 100,000, but I do not want to make any assumptions. It is looking like it might be considerably less than that.

I am looking for very standard anime style, nothing crazy. it's a high school romance, so any style akin to something like Love Hina, etc, would be suitable.

A brief description: Dennis is starting his last year of high school, and things are already going worst than he expected. His only friend John is drifting away into a life of drugs, partying, and girls. His home life is non-existent. One of his teachers is out to get him, and his ex-girlfriend has shown up once again with a meathead of a boyfriend, and second thoughts about ending their relationship. Worst of all, the only one who wants anything to do with him is the geeky wierdo, Whitney, who sits in front of him in class.

Whitney is an artist, a poet, a science fiction lover, and always has a smile on her face. And Dennis hates her. At least, he thinks he does. But when he starts finding that the two of them are growing closer, his mind begins to change. But at the same time, his ex-girlfriend keeps trying to get closer, while the boy who originally came between them becomes increasingly defensive and dangerous. And every time he is with Whitney, people take notice; he is the guy who got to date Angela Forrester, who was best friends with the football team's quarterback, and who hangs out with John all the time! So what is he doing with a weirdo like her?

Whever he is with her, the darkened clouds begin to part. But Dennis is afraid of the light, and life is much easier when you stay hidden in the shadows.

The storyline is set largely in Canada, although it is more non-descript, and not plot pertinent. It is not attempting to emulate Japanese culture or anything like that, so interested artists should note that the characters dress code will be exclusively western. Any other elements of anime such as vibrant colored hair, anime expressions etc, is perfectly fine, however. (pink hair is written in the script I believe, actually.)

I have script samples, descriptions, and all of that good stuff. What I am looking for so far, without the intention to introduce too many more characters:

Dennis (The MC) - Male
John - Male
Jake - Male
Whitney's father - Male
Whitney - Female
Angela - Female
Dennis' mother - Female
Teacher - Female

EDIT: Wanted to add some minor details about the two central leads, Dennis and Whitney. Just a brief bio of each so you have an idea of what you're getting into.

Dennis could be described as being pretentious, sensitive, unfriendly, intelligent, and misanthropic. A curmudgeon who seems to attract people regardless of his negativity. He lives with his mother whom he never sees, and spends most of his free time reading textbooks.

Whitney is passive, witty, kind-hearted, friendly, artistic, and bubbly. At the same time, she has a low tolerance for drama in general, and is a bit of a self-described social recluse. She lives with her father, who has instilled in her a love for science fiction and other similar geekdom.

There will be others, plus some ancillary characters, but I have kept it very much like a play, with a confined cast. I know these names mean absolutely nothing, but I don't want to give too much away in public.

Please PM me if you are interested. Definitely looking for a focus on strong female characters, and an artist who is specifically skilled with drawing them. Teenagers should look like teenages, since this is a very serious storyline, so a very youthful style is not something I am looking for. The lead is male, but there are no submissive female types present here. This is a very pg-13 storyline, with mild langauge, and very mild sexual themes. There are no sex scenes, seen or unseen. The story is a very heavy one as far as drama goes, and the characters are all very multidimensional. I can give a full summary to anyone who is really interested. If I cannot find someone by the time the script is done, I will use placeholder art in the meantime. This is a non-profit project, with no plans (as of yet, anyways) for professional distribution. Names, etc. are subject to change.

If you cannot PM for some reason, email me at calebalang@gmail.com
If you made the effort to attempt to read this, you have far too much time on your hands. Good job, slacker.

Perhaps if your script is captivating, if I can maintain my attention span, I would consider it.
Show me three pages of the most interesting, captivating part of the script.

Ps Whitney makes me think of

Excellent sketch!! EXACTLY WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR! :D :D

Whitney makes ME think of a girl I knew who absolutely has nothing at all in common with the character I made up.

Anyways, I will get that together right away for you.

( :D )

Just wanted to link to a bit of the script, for anyone interested. Posted it for critiquing purposes. Thanks goes to Mikan for already mentioning some points I need to work on.
