Need for volunteer native english editor (100k text).

#1 Post by tohtamish » Fri Oct 22, 2010 9:40 pm

Hello all!

I have worked on my renpy VN for a months. Story is a sci-fi saspiense triller. Now I have very strong need for a good english variant of my game... Art work in progress, - will be finished soon in this or next month. I have edited my russian scenario for a many, many times... Now I like it. :)

Of course, I wanted to show my creation to whole world. Tried to translate scenario by myself, but soon understood, that it's useless. Because it is a complicated literary text. I have only auto-translation of my text. Text size is about 100k symbols. Quality of auto-translation is horrible... It translated almost "as is", having ignored english language constructiond ans popular sayings. I edited translation as my english allow. There some pluses of such "as is" auto-translation. Now it is very easy to understand story, and easy to understand literary style.

Would be very happy to find volunteer - enthusiast, which will take part in project as english editor. In fact, translation needs rewriting... Requirements are simple: good english, ability to work for free. Better if have experience in writing stories. 100k text may seems large for a first sight, but it's illusion. Editing auto-translation had taken just few evenings.

Link to doc-file of english auto-translation:
rtf-formatted:

Just press light-brown button. :)
There are some remaining parts of ren'py scripts in text.
I have already russian version of game, but no need to post link to it here.

If you are interested in editing original saspiens game - plz write in this thread or send me pm.
Send pm with your e-mail and we will communicate by e-mail (internet pagers are not for a such size of information), I will post ypu synopsis, link to game, arts, etc.

Let me have a look and see what I can do with it. Auto-translators are almost never totally accurate, as they typically have little sense for literary flow and grammar.

I will lend a paw for free, on the following conditions:

1) The game in question is to be free itself;
and
2) I reserve the right to ask for a hand on a future project of my own, on the above conditions.

Drop me a PM if you want to discuss further.

Protip: Use .rtf or something similar for saving files you're going to put on the web. .docx is peculiar to Microsoft Office, and without it, you can run into issues.
I'm going to get off my soap-box now, and let you get back to your day.

Academy Daze- Back in production! Complete with ecchi-ness ;)

I am somewhat interested, if only for the practice.
The included Russian phrases are useful, though you might want to leave some more of them in. It'll help people picking English words to decide the tone.
