Publishing on Mac App Store / iOS App Store / Chrome Web ...

#1 Post by vnovel » Thu Mar 17, 2011 5:28 am

vNovel Interactive is running a limited time special offer for developers interested in publishing their already released visual novels through the vNovel platform on the Mac App Store, and iOS App Store, as well as the Chrome Web Store, and other venues.

There are no fees involved for a full porting service offered as a part of this agreement, and the developer retains more than half of all profits on the ported title. Additionally, vNovel Interactive as a publisher will be promoting your title on a number of Internet media channels actively, at no cost to you - and help to establish yourself as a well-known VN development studio.

Please note that only a select few, high quality submissions will be considered for publishing.

If you're interested in grasping this rare opportunity, please fill out the following form, and send it to our email address (contactvnovel + gmail.com, where the " + " stands for "@") by the 31st of March 2011!

Visit the official vNovel website at vnovel.info for a live preview of our current range of titles.

Application Form:

1. Give us a brief synopsis (pitch) of your visual novel's story. It *can* contain spoilers (don't worry, we're a publisher; we read many stories). Make it count.

2. Attach two samples each for background, and character art from your visual novel submission.

3. Does your visual novel contain any age restricted and/or adult material? Please specify accurately.

4. How long is your visual novel?

5. Do you have a website for your studio / visual novel? If yes, please share the link with us. (Please note: This is only used as reference for more information, in case we decide to feature your visual novel.)

6. Which platforms are you interested in publishing your visual novel on? If all of the above, say "all".

7. Which software did you use to develop your original visual novel?

So you're a Titanium shop?

Are the iOS/Android apps compiled webapps, or are they closer to native code?

Are all the Ren'Py transition effects available, and if not, which ones are/are not?

How are movies handled? Are they converted to MP4 and if so, who's paying MPEG-LA?

Since Ren'Py allows for custom Python code, is it being converted programmatically to Titanium's native frameworks or by hand?

Can you be clearer as to what the March 31 deadline refers to, as you're a publisher and presumably continually looking for submissions?

Is this the same engine you used under the name dstarsboy, or is it different?

That's a lot of questions. >.<' I'll try to answer them, best as I can.

No, we're a visual novel and interactive fiction publisher.
duanemoody wrote:Are all the Ren'Py transition effects available, and if not, which ones are/are not?
All standard visual novel effects are available: fades, crossfades, slides, shakes, flashes, etc.

vNovel Interactive is a fiction publisher, and as such, Ren'Py action RPG and dating simulator video games are either stripped to the quality of their story, or recommended elsewhere. Otherwise, standard Ren'Py code is easily converted, using our advanced in-house software.

vNovel only publishes the highest quality (English language) visual novels on the market. Each month we choose a select few visual novels to feature. March 31st is the deadline for our April in-take.

Different: vNovel Interactive's custom built engine, called Pegasos.

I'll try to answer the questions vnovel carefully avoided answering. (Disclaimer: All information I have was obtained from looking at their public demo games several months ago)
duanemoody wrote:Are the iOS/Android apps compiled webapps, or are they closer to native code?
It's a webapp.
duanemoody wrote:Are all the Ren'Py transition effects available, and if not, which ones are/are not?
See video posted above, anything not in there doesn't exist.
duanemoody wrote:How are movies handled? Are they converted to MP4 and if so, who's paying MPEG-LA?
No video support AFAIK

There doesn't seem to be any embedded scripting language. The only interactivity I could find was a conditional jump based on a choice selected earlier.

! o.O It's amazing how some people feel they have the natural right to speak in the name of a company they know hardly anything about...
AxemRed wrote:It's a webapp.
Actually, to get technical - and amend your answer, AxemRed - our products are both native and web platform based apps.
AxemRed wrote:See video posted above, anything not in there doesn't exist.
Once again, incorrect. Not all engine features are shown in this short introductory video.
AxemRed wrote:No video support AFAIK
Video support is present.
AxemRed wrote:There doesn't seem to be any embedded scripting language.
Here I need to highlight that Pegasos and Ren'Py are two different types of software - they have a different focus, and are not to be compared.

While the advanced open-source Ren'Py engine of Tom Rothamel is designed with video game scripting possibilities in mind, vNovel's Pegasos is designed with the purpose to create a highly portable, and easy to use interactive fiction engine for writers and readers alike - with no coding in mind.

We let you concentrate on writing your next quality visual novel, and we take care of all the backend assembly, distribution, promotion, and publishing needs of your product.
