Musician looking for a group

#1 Post by vedicardi » Thu Mar 17, 2011 10:50 pm

LFG guys (or girls) making a visual novel.
No dating sims please. I don't want to develop 100 stupid "menu" songs.

I just recently started using FL studio. Here's something I threw together in literally 30 minutes.

And if I could contribute to story as well, or something, I'd really like that. I just want to be a part of a team.

Judging by those statements, are you a guy? XD
Well, that doesn't really matter anyway but by dating sims, are you against with GxB?
Cause I have a team and we're kind of short of musicians-(is there any difference with composers?)
And we're working with the first project here http://lemmasoft.renai.us/forums/viewto ... =16&t=8698

The game's going a bit slow with all of us busy.
And it's GxB, so...................
Hem, anyway, just letting you know that if you're interested,
feel free to PM me.

Oh, my gender isn't important, nor is the gender or sexuality of the characters involved. I just don't want to be involved in a project that uses the "dating sim format" with all those stats and everything. I don't know why, I just don't like the system.

I may actually prefer "GxB." The story is a bit more interesting that way, isn't it? But still, I'm not sure.

Thanks for the offer. I'll consider it. I'm not going to immediately jump on any "offer," no matter what the project may be, because I'd like to see all of the options out there first before jumping on one, but your project certainly does look interesting.
Thanks again.

Of course. Thanks for considering.
I hope you'd be able to get more offers for you.
Most people are in dire of musicians, so I think that
in just a few days, people would be interested in your works.
Oh, I love your sample by the way.
Good luck.

I will say, I do enjoy your sample. was that really made within 30 minutes? I cannot use FL studio for the life of me.

I am in need of a musician, or even just a sound guy for placement of correct music(example, scene 6 needs mp3 7).

My project has not been posted on the forums just yet due to waiting on a teaser to upload(which will run 30 mins-1 hr in length). But I can tell you I've been working on it for the past two years along with a writer and a small hand full of character designers. It's border line commercial as i do intend for a directors cut version to be pay per download, but will have a free to play with no extras(I want people to enjoy the story mostly).

PM me if your interested and I can go into more detail then I would on the forums.

Placement of music, as far as I'm aware, is based on scripting. It'd be nice to learn a bit of script, but as far as I can tell I don't think I'd be able to get immediately involved with something like that. I could do sound effects, if you need as well.

But yeah, I'll PM you for some details at least XD

Offer is still open of course, for anyone else reading.

Oh, by musician, I mean I am a composer as well lol. It's not as if I am planning on simply performing other people's music (though I suppose I could if someone wanted me to).

That's a very interesting story you have. If you have any more information for me, feel free to PM me, or post here, whatever you'd like! I'll consider it as I will the other offers I have.

I had no idea there were so many women on this forum XD This is nice.

That's pretty cool. I can only imagine why that is... The japanese industry is completely male dominated, as are most other sectors of the gaming industry other than in writing and character design... Maybe it's because those are the two key elements of VNs. Hm.
Thanks for the heads up :D

I also wanted to have a musician. I have lyrics and a tone for a song. I don't have any small idea how to make music so... >___<
It's for my bigger project, The Spiritual Equivalent, which you can look up the details in my signature. :D

I've read the lyrics and I'm not so sure about them. Could you PM me about what you think the "tone" of the song should be? There are certain genres that I won't like doing and I am kind of assuming, with the lyrics you have, that the style of music you want might fall into one of those categories, but I'd like to hear whatever style it is you want them to be anyway!

Games? Like what visual novels do I like? Or actual video games?

Clannad is probably my favorite, and Kira Kira is a close second. I really like the format but it's rare that I find a visual novel that I really like... Too many rely on ridiculous plot points and not actual good writing and well executed drama, and have poor character design, relying on boring cliches, etc.

Not sure if I answered your question. I haven't really played many ren'py games because I don't know where to start. There don't seem to be many quality ren'py games that are 100% complete and full in the way that Clannad is with 7+ paths and a full after story, or something of such quality. If anyone has some advice on good VNs, please point me to them!

I guess what I don't like is stats, which I feel are arbitrary, confusing, and not really conductive to the story. Games with poorly crafted and short bad endings also irk me (bad endings that always having the same text after a certain point and the path leading to the actual end being extremely short). To me, bad endings should be GOOD endings in that they tell a great, interesting story! Even though you don't win, it's still interesting. To me, Kyou's bad ending in Clannad was a great example of this, or what School Days did with some of their bad endings... Ha.

My personal belief is that visual novels should be about the novel aspect than the visual aspect, to an extent. They're not "game novels," after all.

----

Here's my first test using FL studio's orchestra samples

Tell me what you think!

I don't like how it ends/goes into the loop but I don't really have the care to change it since it was just a test. I'm going to try to make a song that is designed to serve an actual purpose next. The samples themselves are mediocre. I'm downloading a new pack now that'll hopefully be a big step up.

There's almost definitely no Clannad-class visual novels made in renpy (at least in terms of length; there are several that come close in terms of quality).

I completely agree with you on stats; particularly with small teams, wasting time on excess features like stats (and other things that fill so many 'dating sims') tend to detract from the overall quality of the visual novel (AKA the actual story XD).

Also, those samples are sounding really good, especially since it doesn't sound like you've had a ton of experience. :D

Ack...so many requests.... XD As to be expected when you actually show what you can do in a recruitment thread.

I'm not sure exactly how interesting my project appears to you out of all of these requests based on the PM you sent me, but I'm interested in working with you if possible. Just let me know how things work out for you.
