Multiple POV's?

#1 Post by Desu_Cake » Wed Aug 17, 2011 6:42 am

I have a story idea that essentially replays the same scenario from two different points of view. Essentially you play through first as the guy, then as the girl. Obviously the two routes won't be exactly the same, but broadly speaking, they will.

What I want to know is: Is this viable?
Whether it's possible for me to pull it off, I won't know until I start, but do you think it could work?

*Please note that I know zip about programming and what goes on with that side of things*

I'm pretty sure this is possible. It is definitely possible if it is a kn. For a vn I'm pretty sure you will have to raise flags (?) to tell the game what decisions you made in the first round that effects what happens in the second. Depending on the complexity of the story and how involved the two POV are, I don't think it would be that different from any other game where past decisions effect future ones. Camille and I are doing something similar for BCM since the first part is about one character and the second part is about another. But yeah, she would have more idea of how that works than I ^^'

Sure it is. And it's been done before; consider "Heavy Rain". While the "classic" VN may be the one with a single protagonist, why not set up a story that way?

In fan fiction, it's an almost everyday concept: choose a pairing and tell the story through the eyes of both members of that pairing. I'm certain it will work with a VN.

Seconding what Auro said, ehe. It's actually pretty easy to code, too, it just requires a lot more work--obviously--than having just one character. XD Just have some separate files/labels for each character and a lot of persistent variables if you want decisions/etc to carry over from one story to the other. If a lot of their story is the same, you can use the same labels, change a few things here and there, and use if statements to differentiate. You can definitely do it. :D
