Anime anatomy: Man nipples in VN sprites and other art?

Most animes/mangas don't have them at all, and, consequently, anime/manga-influenced artists tend to avoid drawing them as well, to the point of finding them out of place when they're actually present.

I've been looking more and more at male models for anatomy reference lately, and now I find it weird when the nipples are not there. So I now draw a couple of darker ovals in there with a bit of shading. However, I understand some anime/manga lovers may not like that, just like I found it out of place during a period of time, myself...

So... What do you think? You'd rather have your shirtless male characters with or without nipples in your VNs and/or anime-style art in general?

Eh, I think they generally should be there. Most men do have nipples, after all...

Long time ago, when I was a kid, I drew a bishie without nipples (I was pure and shy gurrl). And everyone trolled me like "Lol where's his nipples duude" or "WTH is this?"...
So I prefer males with nipples now.

I think as long as you're consistent, it doesn't really matter one way or another. I think not drawing nipples is another form of censoring, haha. You rarely ever see anyone with body hair in anime/manga, either.

If they're shirtless most the time, yeah! But I don't usually draw nipples on the sprites if they're not needed (clothed all the time)

I don't need nipples on young bishie boy with small frame since poor guy already looks like a girl, but bearded Macho with hairy chest may seem a little disturbing without them.

I guess if I had to choose one or the other, then I prefer nipples on my men.

But, really, it all comes down to how consistent the artist is. Either always have nipples with a shirtless guy, or never have nipples.

Also, I'd like to see some body hair on (at least) some of them. Don't get me wrong, I like the hairless chest alright, but having all the men body waxed can get kind of...weird.

Man nipples are fine as long as they're not jarring and SHINY.

Because really, lighting doesn't work that way.

I draw them because, well, they should BE there and it would be wrong not to draw them? I remember a long while ago I did find it a little embarrassing (as well as a couple of things), but I got over that real quick XD.

Why the heck WOULD you omit them? Maybe this is my classical art training and degree rearing its head, but I draw nipples on men because men have nipples. Really that simple.

It IS a form of censorship - I would no more NOT draw a man with nipples than I would draw a woman without nipples. It is just another way of saying nipples are bad if you don't draw them. You may as well not draw belly-buttons either, cause what good are they, right?

When I see guys without nipples it makes me think they are deformed, or fake, or plastic. Gah! What the heck is wrong with them?

You know, for many years I just assumed it was part of the anime/manga style to have nipple-less men, just like the impossibly huge and shiny eyes, the gravity-defying hairstyles and the natural rainbow colored hair xD;

This... they don't have to be super detailed or anything, just don't leave the poor guy with a blank chest. Along the same vein, I don't care for ecchi, but as an artist it really bothers me when ecchi artists position things like ONE STRAND of hair over an enormous female breast just so they have an excuse for there to be no nipple drawn (I'm lookin' at you, Kentaro Yabuki). It just looks absurd. But it seems so common. I'm kinda surprised we don't have already have a generation of young people who think the opposite sex has nothing on their chest. >_>
