Not exactly sure what you're referring to. What do you mean by "obtainables" in that context? Dating interests that may kill off the other characters if you don't make them happy a la "School Days"?

don't worry about overused I guess. I mean look at tsundere, almost every anime has them and I think the majority of anime fans still loves them ^^;.
Compared to tsundere, split personality is more rare I think.

I personally loves yandere, since they're usually nice and caring, <3.

Oh, and please give us the option to be a good and loyal partner to them. I definitely don't want being forced by the storyline to cheat on him/her and get killed ... .

btw, your avatar will make a good yandere character I think ^^

Edit: After re-reading your post and taleweaver post a couple of times ... by split personality, do you mean people who is nice, then he eat an ice cream then suddenly become evil. Then after taking a nap, become a good person again? Someone like that?

Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde anyone?

I... think it can be done, but I would only personally be interested if it was really well done and the complexity of the character was explored. But then, I dislike the whole tsundere, whateverdere tropes because it is often used as an excuse to skip over character development sometimes. I'm of the opinion that all characters should be approached as complex individuals, not groups or type or tropes.

I'm using two of this kinda persons in my game... but they're not really the same... one is caring but dangerous, the other one is dangerous, caring but still dangerous..

not really following the usual -dere tropes... I'm trying to make unique characters from out of the two characters as much as I can... to the point that you could call it bi-polar.

yeah... one of them has totally different personalities... mirror image much.

For me, it depends on the reasoning behind the split personalities. And the way you play it all out. If it's funny, make sure you illuminate that fact with bright lights, if it's sad - do the same. Really explain why. It'd make for an interesting character and also determine whether or not it's 'liked'.
Of course, you can't please everyone! But I wouldn't worry about that ;)

I agree with Aiurax. If you include the person in a parody, you could highlight the overused cliches and whatnot to comedic affect. If he/she's a character in a darker story, it'd be nice if there are some reasons as to why the person has a split personality. But too many reasons may just make it unrealistic and overwhelming, turning the story into a melodramatic soap opera. -_- Anyways, I'd like a person with split personalities if both personalities come across as believable and complex. The character doesn't have to be lovable though for me to appreciate him/her.

Poppyrocks, you may benefit by looking through TVTropes' extensive article on split personality characters at http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/M ... ersonality . Since so many media are discussed, you'll learn how many different creators have used this concept in their works. (But just keep in mind that the site is notorious for taking hours and hours of time...)
