On writing routes...

#1 Post by risingdreams » Sat Feb 11, 2012 5:42 pm

I'm trying to write my fourth game, and having some problems when writing different routes. I wonder...

Should I write all routes at once, one at a time or whatever floats my boat? Just wondering...

Plan the story out first so you know what you're going to do, how you're going to do it and to avoid most plot holes. Then write them in whatever way/order you want :)?

It depends on the way that you want to work. I like to outline and plan out everything that I want to write before I start. It makes the process easier for me. Instead of focusing on one specific route at a time, I've been writing all of the choice outcomes as they come up in the story. It's made me have to think in several different mindsets whenever I write, but I like it. I'll probably write it that way again for my next story.

I would start all of them them, then work on one route until I was tired of it. When that would happen, I would work on another route to take a break.
(All projects currently on a hiatus of sorts. I blame life.)

Not really checking the forums any more due to time constraints, so if you want to contact me, PM. I'll get a notification and log in.
Also, I've been hit and run posting, which means I don't see many replies. If you want to respond to something I've said, also feel free to PM me.

NOTE: if you've got questions about vnovel or things like that, it's Leon that you should be contacting. Leon's been pretty much handling everything, but due to various reasons, I've had to withdraw entirely.

1.Plot the story first,
2.design the characters characteristics and back stories if they have them,
3. Pick a route you want to start writing, maybe start with the true path or the character you think will be easiest or hardest.
4. Once done or having a writers block, start another route.

That's how I do it most of the time, for the 3rd if you do the hardest route first then writing the other routes should be easier.

Use index cards. Brainstorm a series of scenes, label them by path or as parts of different paths, and organize the cards and shuffle them around to suit the needs of the story. The ability to physically arrange the scenes is mind-bogglingly useful.
She's sun and rain: She's fire and ice. A little crazy, but it's nice.
