Funny story:

You may or may not remember that I registered just over a month ago with the intention of doing a NaNoRenO entry, and was very excited about the project (original post). I was ready. I had a story that I liked, I had characters that I liked, I had planned out roughly half of my scenes, I had art pre-made, I had reference, I had worked my homework ahead to have more time. By March 1st, I was ready.

A mere 4 Days and 700 words later, I found out I didn't enjoy writing. Called it quits and never looked back. Had a great time doing 3D modeling instead.

So I have respect for all those of you who did finish, and I'll gladly look into those projects once I get over the trauma of having an old dream smashed in 700 words.

Well, at least you found out early, and not like...1000s of words later. It looked interesting, however (even if I couldn't read it). Though, you can try finding a writer for future projects.

Those who didn't finish - don't be too sad, it'll be all right and you have the time to make the games polished at least :D!

Those who finished - congratulations once again~ I looked into the completed games forum and there are so many nano-projects there, it's awesome! I'm definitely going to play all of them soon, but good job to everyone who participated!

I'm glad there's so many; my Spring Break starts this week (of course it starts AFTER NaNo...), so that gives me more to do than lay around my house watching TV all day. /no social life

I'm amazed at the finished works now, though I don't have as much time as I'd like to play through them. Looks like a LOT of effort was put into them. But I wonder, don't these people have day jobs?

I work full time, so I'm out from 7am to 6:30pm 5 days a week...

>:D

Granted, my social life is comatose most of the time, so that helps. *pokes it with a stick*

"I have a test tomorrow." >> "Let's work on RisAmo for a while! :'D"
"It's 4AM. I should probably sleep since I have class in the morning." >> "Let's work on RisAmo for a while! :'D"
"This awesome game came out and my brother and cousin want me to play it with them." >> "Let's work on RisAmo for a while! :'D"
"I have been working on RisAmo for the last 6 hours and my stomach is growling." >> "Eh, I need to finish this scene! Who needs food, anyway?!"
"I have been working on RisAmo all day, it's now 3AM, and I'm having trouble keeping my eyes open." >> "Make tea and continue working on RisAmo!!"

That's basically how I was able to write a 60,000-word script, code a bunch of GUIs, and compile everything else in a month. Auro does have a day job unlike me, so what she did was work on the art as soon as she got home. (and stayed up later than she probably should have ;c) She also had a three-day-weekend at some point, if I remember right, and worked furiously during that time. XD Somehow or another she actually finished her art before I finished everything else even though she has much less free time than I do. (she finished the promotion image about... 4-5 hours before I finally finished coding everything) So people call me the robot, but I think she's the scary one! O_O

Would I recommend this to anyone else? Uhh, no. But I guess this is what happens when you put together two people with a mile-long stubborn streak and perfectionistic tendencies.

^Yup, exactly like that.

I was deadlining for papers and what not, going to class and doing other work aside from nano too. It's a matter of working your ass off and sleeping for about 4-5 hours each night XD. At one point the white on my monitor even starts to look pink because my eyes are giving up haha.

I have a family of five to tend to O.o *Me, My husband, my twin boys and a little girl.*
I also draw comics for a living *or I get paid to draw my story, it's not really enough to live off of ^^; but it helps cover the cost for diapers and some pocket money so no complaining from me.* and I manage my new website and second webcomic so I guess you can consider all of that a job.
I think when you really have a passion for something you find time to do it and I think a lot of times we don't realize that we're doing that. Like say*for example* when Person-chan gets off of work or from school and they look at the visual novel or comic or whichever, that they need to work on but then say "Eh I'm to tired to work on that." Then they go and watch TV, or talk on the phone or do what-ever else that people do *I really have little to no social life because I'm constantly drawing so forgive me for the lameness of this example.*
Well even though Person-chan was tired they still found time to do all of those other things that they wanted to do because there desire and drive to talk on the phone made them unconsciously make time to do that even though they were tired or possibly busy with other stuff.....I don't know if this is making any sense but basically what I'm trying to say is that this is something that I learned about myself.
Even when I'm to tired to work on my comic page or said that I didn't have enough time to do it today, I always found myself talking on the phone to my mom or surfing the internet. I found time to do all of those things but not my work so I had to learn to get my priority's rearranged and make my work just as important as talking on the phone or whatever else I did to waste time.

It's not easy to make a visual novel but I think that those who really have a drive or passion to do it always or most of the time make time to do that, even if that mean's cutting out time from their sleep to put towards doing there project or cutting out the time that they would have used to watch tv to add towards there project.
I really hope this doesn't come off as preachy....it wasn't my intention at all but I was really excited to say something that I learned recently :D *Yea I'm still learning stuff at 23!*

Thanks, Mink :) . I am actually doing art work for a professional writer, but sometimes you just want to tell a story of your own.

Crazy thing is, I really enjoyed outlining the general idea and scenes of a visual novel. It was to be an experiment with spoilers. Supposedly, being spoiled doesn't ruin a story, so I wanted to try that; the VN was to be called "Someone has to die before the end", which spoils the ending in the title, and after the first of three chapters you'd pick which of the three characters it'd be that would have to die. And then I'd spend the other two chapters making you feel guilty about choosing that particular character. It was actually pretty fun to come up with scenes that could be differently interpretated depending on background information you'd receive later on the paths.

I can kind of see where that article is coming from, though I guess it depends on how much is spoiled. Sometimes know just the ending makes me want to play something more, but usually that's if I go out and find out what it is, rather someone going, "X IS REALLY Y!!" or something.

Oh, see, that does sound interesting to me. And for some reason, makes me think of And Then There Were None.

And it's finally Tuesday (...where I'm at), which means I only have one class, and then I can spend the rest of my day playing games since I have no social life. And do my homework for Chinese, but mostly games.

Time to watch the board become a popularity contest :/ Sad to say this, but it seems like the harsh truth for games that went off the beaten path or ones made by the less-than-known users/groups.
Support the underdogs too! They deserve some love ;-;

Give it some time :) People will start with the ones they were most excited for first before trying out others. Quite a lot of games came out at once after all. I've only played one so far but I fully intend to try out more... right after I play my own so I have an idea of what people are talking about ;_;

Your VN is still sitting on top of my to-read list ;o;! I just don't have the time yet. Same goes for others' games, I want to play them alllll~! <3

Too late, I'm already disillusioned.
This notion of "Oh, I'm gonna play them all!" is only coming from the creators side, but you know what? The bigger groups are always going to bury the newbies and groups who haven't established a solid name yet under the comments of "mm love this cuz it's so great i rlly lieked boy A." Bad spelling and grammar intentional. I'm sure as hell glad I don't get those comments on my own NaNo since they wouldn't be valid in the first place, but was making a game that wasn't a dating sim really a good idea in the end? I wish I could say so but even the one that's an otome parody is getting close to nil in terms of comments. I'm not linking it to see if you can even find it to begin with under all the other titles, though it should stick out like a sore thumb to a certain crowd...
@Auro-Cyanide and Camille if you even see this:
If RisAmo is anything like what Hijiri told me it was, thank you. Thank you. Despite being the occasional fan of otomes, I want to slap this crowd around some and screw with them a little. I really can't believe that some of my fellow human beings are that picky to only play games where 2D boys can be chased around. There are more interesting things in life than fictional boys.
I'm probably going to be struck by thunder for saying these things, aren't I? Hah, as if they'll even get close to this section of the board...
