New Programmer VB6 DX8.1

#1 Post by Aikeru »

Hey everybody. =) I'm new to this forum. I've had a long interest in games like ToL, but have had very poor luck finding any that were in a language I could understand. I am learning Japanese, but it's taking me a long time to do so. I don't think I'll be reading any kanji within the next month. ~_~

Anyway, I have some skills -- I'm not a C++ programmer (though I have the tools and the brain O_o), but I can make a dating sim easily. The only problem I have is that I cannot draw (well, some people beg to differ but I don't believe them) nor am I any good at composing music (no argument there =P).
The projects I've worked on thus far have only been my own. If anyone is interested in what I can do or whatever, my e-mail is picchrist@hotmail.com (please put subject RE: Programmer so I know it isn't spam =P)

I've already written several projects. For example...
- A mech game that supports about 30 or so players using DirectPlay, the only functions so far are chat, walking around a scrolling battlefield, and spraying sparks from your mech by pressing a button. Has been tested over my LAN. First DirectPlay project.
- An RPG that has VERY extensive script functions (like the kind you could use to make a dating game), and simple graphics. I have been tempted to MAKE it a dating sim, but it's in medieval setting and I'd need to change the graphics. Includes introductory AVI, background music (WAV), battle engine (supports 5 enemies, 5 heroes, custom attributes, custom weapons/armor etc), conversation engine (with sound, alternating pictures, unlimited multiple responses from dropdown menu, multi-layered dialogue with logic features), and more. It has global flags, map triggers, etc. The works. Perhaps my biggest project. Everything I've mentioned here has been tested, too. =)
- A sidescrolling shooter that supports like 4 different weapons, has like 10 or so levels, sound effects, support for add-on levels, different enemies, etc etc. My first game project.

...and lots of other projects that would be pointless to list here because it's alot of text and I'm not trying to make a "product catalogue".

So anyway, ToL is kewl. =)
If you wanna form a group, lemme know.

Maybe you could look into some music mixing programs, where you use existing samples either from software "sound collection" packages or free ones on the net. http://www.ejay.com is one company I know of (beware of some of the later versions, especially the latest version of Techno and Dance 5-6, if you have Win XP unless they released a patch....)
Drawing... just takes practise ^^; So can't help there... You could try and find an artist, but artist forums would probably be the best place to look, if you don't find anyone here that is.

Anyway looks like you've created some really interesting stuff. Best of luck.
