RenPY VNs for Win 8 App Store

Has anyone looked into what it would take to get a RenPY VN into the upcoming Windows 8 App Store? Hopefully it is a little less "impossible" than the Mac OS App Store?

It's probably even harder. To get into the Windows 8 App Store, you need to be a metro app. Ren'Py isn't a metro* app, and right now I don't think metro games will be all that popular, so I'm probably not going to spend effort on it any time soon.
Ren'Py games should work fine on the desktop, and on app stores that target the desktop, like steam and desura.
* Or whatever metro is being called this week.

I honestly think Win8 will be the biggest mistake of MS, and that many gamers will move to Linux

I can't see any reason why anyone (unless is mad) would want to "upgrade" from a perfectly working OS like Win7 (the best Windows ever made IMHO) to ... that thing.
There are some videos on internet showing how crazy is the interface. Unless they allow an easy way to reset it so that works in desktop mode only, I really don't know WHO could want to "upgrade".
I'd rather see a iOS port than a metro port

Win 8 confuses me. Without buying their special mouse (that has a touchpad built into the top so you can flick), the 'gestures' you have to make to use the system are unwieldy and annoying. I have to wonder how well Win8 will do -- it has definitely the fanbase that could keep it going, but this? Could the Windows fanboys be okay with this after all?
That was kinda off-topic, but if Windows 8 does well, then maybe PyTom will reconsider?

I'm a big fan of iDevices, but this is a monstrosity, and should be chased through the village with flaming torches and pitchforks.
It really seems like this is for social networking addicts only.

Windows 7 is shaping up to be the new Windows XP.

I'm only half-kidding when I say that my response to the Windows 8 preview was to spend time improving the Linux port.

It seems that not only the metro, but even the desktop app that wants to be certified (and probably they'll force people to run only certified apps like Apple is clearly trying to do) is going to be a big PITA. Check the app requirements:

seems slightly crazy to me

That's always been the problem with Windows computers, for me. You never "own" a windows, your are merely begrudgingly allowed to use it.

Is there any reason to believe this will suddenly become a requirement? This has existed for years, it only grants you a "compatible with Windows X" sticker.

Well as it says in the beginning:
This document contains the technical requirements and eligibility qualifications that a desktop app must meet in order to participate in the Windows 8 Desktop App Certification Program. For Windows 7, this program was known as the Windows Software Logo Program.
So yes, before in Win7 this was needed only to get the sticker as you said, but from what I understand, all those requirements will need to be met to just run the app in desktop mode.
I don't know if they'll do like Apple in mountain lion, so you have at least the choice to run it with the very funny message "run this safely approved (tm) app by microsoft" or "are you sure you want to destroy all your HD content and send you info to al-qaeda by running this unsigned/uncertified app by SATAN?????!" *
In any case, I think the only hope is that it will be a flop like Vista... since every time I hear something about it, is always worse
* note: obviously I was joking, but the message is not much less scary than that

Yes, but where did you get that from?

I quoted the first paragraph from the link I posted from microsoft website!!

As I said, it depends how they will do it - it might be as "harmless" as it's on Mountain Lion now, or worse. Still if you try to run Ren'Py (or any game made with it not codesigned) from Mountain Lion with the default gatekeeper setting, you already can't.

Where does it say apps need to participate in the certification program to be able to run in desktop mode?

Sorry didn't express myself clearly

You're correct, right NOW, there's nothing to enforce those requirements. Similarly you can still run unsigned apps on Mountain Lion as well. The fact is that by default it's disabled on Mac gatekeeper, makes me think that they'll try the same "trick" on Win8 as well (by default disable unsigned/certified apps from running at all).
So as I said it might be nothing, I was just shocked at the thought of complying to all those crazy rules. I am looking at 5-6 months or maybe 1 year from now when sadly win8 will be popular.
Still I found funny Notch reply to MS (from an article I found online):
Minecraft creator Markuss Persson has foiled Microsoft’s attempt to clarify the game for Windows 8. The much-loved Notch once again took to Twitter in order to discuss his thoughts. As ever, there’s no punches pulled.
Notch’s tweets can be viewed below:
Got an email from microsoft, wanting to help “certify” minecraft for win 8. I told them to stop trying to ruin the pc as an open platform.

I’d rather have minecraft not run on win 8 at all than to play along. Maybe we can convince a few people not to switch to win 8 that way..
