Photograph-based VN?
So I've had a visual novel idea for the last few months, and done a fair amount of concepting and so on for it. I'd totally be working on it for real by now, except for one small problem. I can't draw at all. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/62133198/max.png is about the extent of my drawing capabilities.
So... I had a thought, which is to get people to submit photographs of themselves and of places, and use those. On a scale of one to a bazillion, how stupid is this idea? Could it work? Should I just realize it's dumb and give up? Etc.

I think a photograph VN could be very stylish.
You could photoshop them some, and end up with a very distinct style.
There are lots and lots of ways to do the graphics, don't get discouraged!
I remember an oldish visual novel in this forum where the maker used pictures of dolls for the sprites, and it looked very unique.
Also, take a look at Locked In! Only silhouettes, and it's one of the classiest looking games here.

Don't be afraid to think outside the box. Make the VN you want to make, using artwork that you want to use.
There will be people who won't play your VN because it doesn't have hand drawn art, but hey, that's their choice.

All of my VNs are at http://wolflore.net NOTE: Downloads are now working.
Some are at http://www.the-new-lagoon.com. NSFW
Poorly done hand-drawn art is still poorly done art. Be a Poser (or better yet, use DAZ Studio 3D) - dare to be different.

If you want to use these http://lemmasoft.renai.us/forums/viewto ... 52&t=17104 you're more than welcome to.
If you need other backgrounds, my camera will be glad of it. It may not be a DSLR but it shoots HQ photos with HD videos... It's almost summer so nature, buildings etc are good right now (the natural lighting's quite good, I mean).
A photograph of myself? Err...heheh....I'm a bit awkwardly shy.

Hm. Backgrounds are definitely a thing I'd need! The story I have in mind is set in a mental hospital/school (and yes things like that do exist) and the surrounding area.
As for being awkwardly shy, well... Is that a definite "no"? I mean it's fine if it is; I'm just want to make sure one way or the other.
