My game's skeleton is nearly done which means hey, time to pretty it up so that I can post a thread over at work in progress. Since I'm faced with the
uncomfortable reality that I'm as talented with Photoshop as a goat is at flying, I don't have much choice aside from commissioning a GUI. I haven't ever commissioned a GUI before. All other(non VN-related) game projects I participated in had somebody else in the team handle it. I have a few questions about the process and it would be great if somebody could help me with them.
1) When commissioning a GUI, do artists generally charge per page or is it a fixed scale?
2) I know the answer to this question is 'it depends on the artist, but assuming a good, quality GUI/HUD designer, how much(in general) would it cost for around 6/7 pages? I'm not overly worried about price because I got a fairly decent budget, but I like to keep those things in mind before I go around looking for the right artist.
3)What do you usually tell your GUI/HUD artist? Do you give them a list of functions the player needs to access in a specific page and they order it however they want? Or do you need to have every laid out in a rough sketch so they can design it the way you want?
4)Somewhat related to number 3 - assuming I hired a freelance artist for this as opposed to having someone "join the team" so to speak, is it still normal to give out the project's GDD to the artist for references in tone/philosophy or is it generally frowned upon to expect a freelance artist to read a GDD for a single project?
5)What is the best place to find a GUI/HUD artist for a commercial game? I ask because I haven't seen many GUI/HUD artists posting around the recruitment board.
Thanks in advance for your attention and responses!

Re: Commissioning GUIs/HUDs - What's the process behind it?
I can do stuff like that, I usually charge a fixed rate plus more money for additional pages.
I would expect to receive the GDD as well as a rough description of where everything should go. For a full set of GUI art and programming I would charge a minimum of $300 (not including additional pages or animation), but then again, my stuff is professional quality. The price is split half and half, so just the programming would be minimum $150.
