Character Archetype Survey

#1 Post by Veniae » Mon Nov 12, 2012 5:59 pm

Hello, everyone!

For the last couple of days, I've been pondering on a certain question.

Dee and I created a poll about the character people like the most in our upcoming game. The results (Casey in the lead with Boris on the second place) sparked my curiosity, because, speaking in archetypes, both characters fall in the same category: the Adorkable, or speaking in other words, characters who are nice and cute, but not particularly 'cool'. That led me to the following question: do the characters that appeal to us the most have to do anything with the age of the player?

Driven by the aforementioned curiosity, I created a survey. If you have the time, please take it. It's very simple and consists only of three questions, so it won't be time-consuming at all.

I realise that's probably been done before, but I want to see for myself. If there turns out to be any correlation between the age and the most attractive archetype, that could even be useful for game developers (and other people who create fiction), so I thought, "Why not?"

So, I'll appreciate it if you took the survey and/or told me what you think. Cheers!

(Spoilered because no longer relevant. :) )
... If guys express interest in girls who are nice and cute but not particularly cool, does that mean it's a certain "fatherly" instinct?

I'm not entirely comfortable with the assumptions here. :)

Surveys are well and good, but by first inventing your own explanation and then stating it, you're skewing any response you might get...

Thanks to the 32 guys that participated. Keep 'em coming! :D

@Cidz: I didn't add that type, because I find they're usually a subtype of sorts of the aloof one. Anyway, thanks for voting!

I see the teaser/mischievous type isn't in there--too bad, that's normally my favorite. I'll choose from what you gave though. ^^

omg I can't do this survey, there are too many character archetypes that I like and I can't decide which one I like the most! If only that section was a "tick your top 5" instead...

why is the mean ore-sama jerk type not up there ahh

I don't like any of those types very much at all.

I much prefer the goofy type, the troll/teasing type, the shy/loner type, the older brother/sister type, and the creepy type.

I second the shy loner type! I love sweet but shy characters (of any gender) who have trouble fitting in. I guess I could vote for "cute but lame," but I don't really consider it the same thing. Maybe you could add a comment box to the survey? (if it's not too late already lol)

Isn't that the reasoning behind "moe" appeal?
Complete: a2 ~a due~ (music, language, love)
In progress: The Pirate Mermaid (fairytale otome)
On hold: AXIOM.01 (girl detective game)

Thank you!

I haven't forgotten about this; just waiting for the holidays to come to look through the results. I have a feeling it will be very time-consuming, and time isn't something I have plenty of right now. :D

I really had trouble...

I chose the dangerous type in the end, but I really like the dangerous and the mysterious types equally.
Well, in case that something like this would be possible with that website, I would have rather asked for a other way of judging.

Something like "Arrange these types according to your favor, top the most favoured, bottom the least favorite"
Because, by seeing your choices, I felt the sudden "anger" (not real anger) about the possible types.
The cute type...
The perfect type...
Seriously, I played a hell lot of games and I seriously and absolutly HATE these types. I don't buy them at all, I avoid them (and if I need them for a perfect ending, then I just scroll through it).

By asking for a sequence, you would have also known which ones you maybe should avoid.
If everyone would totally dislike the perfect character, then your game would probably never be played 100% (or only if, like I said, there is some special content for playing all possible routes).

But that is just my two cents. Maybe it isn't possible and it isn't your fault :)
It's still interesting to ask and I would love to get to know the results.

I answered the "mysterious type" - probably because mysterious girls might turn out to be nerdy, or just shy

Dangerous types are cool, but don't appeal to me as much, I'm not really the dominatrix-liking person. I like giving moral support, but not "moe" levels either.
