Software for collaborative work : any recommendation?

#1 Post by redcat »

Greetings~ :)
Long story short, I've been developing a VN with my internet friends. Since we cannot have a regular face-to-face meeting (due to various reasons), we decided to use wikidot as our project management tool and online repository. But lately, me and my friends started to feel that wikidot - while have some good features - is just not good enough for our VN project anymore.

So, can anyone recommend me a decent project management software for a small "VN developer" group? The requirements are :
- Preferably a free (or cheap) ones since we're just a small amateur team
- Have a 'dynamically organized' online repository (or at least something like microsoft project's sharing point or any web-sync functionality)
- Have standard features like Task list, calendar / milestone / event reminder
- Customizable; for example we could add/run a script to search/update tag list from the repository (but this is just optional)

Thanks in advance for your advice.

I never used wikidot before so I can't compare, but personally I use clockingIT ( http://www.clockingit.com/ )
I'm pretty content with it XD
I'm not sure about the last point but it should fulfill the other 3.

I Know of two good programs
DropBox makes it so you create a shared folder on your desktop and those who you allow access through their website can go into that single folder and drop files in there that you can open on your computer. You can create multiple folders and as such able to separate resources.

Trello is more on the information side with writing down what you need done and able to create notes and such. I'd advise to look trhough both of them and see which one best fits your group or even use both.

My writer and I have been using Google Drive to create our VN. It keeps it up to date so we don't have to send it back and forth when we make changes, we can just open it.

Skype, a Screen rendering program like Many cam and Hamachi

Use Skype for person to person conversation, Many cam to share your screen and Hamachi to share a hard drive between everyone on the team.
