Sprites of Children
I've been browsing these forums for a while, taking in the sights (and the site), especially admiring the work I find. However, something I've noticed is that sprites of children are few and far between. Granted, I've only been looking for one as a fill-in until I can get with my artists (or find others if they fall through), but my searches have turned up pretty much nothing. So I suppose my question is this: Does anyone know where I can find some? Specifics are a non-issue at this point in the development, though the character in question is male. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Re: Sprites of Children
I guess the issues here is that most developers/creators aren't interested or planning on making a story starring particularly young children as main characters (if we're talking between the ages of 5-12 I mean.)
Your best bet would probably be to request or commission some children sprites. Some artists here are making free sprites to add to our free assets I think?

I could put a child sprite on my next up list for when I do a new CC sprite, but it might be a while before I have the time to get round to it.

Re: Sprites of Children
You make a fair point, and I assumed that was the case. I would guess there is some sort stigma attached to the idea of a child being a main character.
And I'm honestly in no hurry, my plate is so incredibly full as it is, so I'm really just doing this as a hobby for now. Still, if you'd be willing to do it that would be fantastic.

Re: Sprites of Children
I think this is more a case of teenagers/young adults being the preferred age range for VN characters, typically, more than there being a stigma against it. Stories starring children are more rare, unless it's a game aimed towards children (which would be really cool actually!), so you're far less likely to see relevant assets floating around.
But if you're needing a fill-in sprite just for development's sake, you could just create a blank sprite as a placeholder (think the pictures that show up on facebook profiles when the person hasn't uploaded a picture), and then replace it with the appropriate image once you have it.

-- You can change the colors of the hair and eyes with the PSD file included. In Photoshop, Copy and Desaturate the individual layers, then Color Overlay them to what you need.

Re: Sprites of Children
Oh man, I just had a funny thought when I was reading this thread.
There could be a running gag in some visual novel, where everyone else is older, or at least taller, and a child character could try to use the text box or something to try to compensate for their height--with their arms over the sides and a struggling look like they are on their tip-toes. XD
I haven't seen too many, though I know in Umineko, the younger kids, while a bit shorter, aren't shown as too short. Then again, with umineko, there are weird perspective things.
For example:

Big boat, little people?

Those are some big roses! I mean, I know she's like 8 years old (or 9?) but still, the roses shouldn't be as big as her head! XD
There's a comic that beautifully illustrates the odd angles that people would have to be at for some perspectives to work, but I can't find it. But usually it's for odd angles, like when people sprites are at their normal size, but there's a huge doorknob or a chandelier behind them so they'd have to be floating with the camera in front of them, at a weird 45 degree angle. XD
