Re: How To Make Your Visual Novel Get More Audience
@Lesleigh63 : Thanks for the opinion, I'll consider it
@Milkymalk : I don't mind for you being blunt, honestly I've been thinking it for quite some time though. I'll try to be careful next time I promote something. That's said, maybe you just happen not to be my target audience.
@trooper6 : That's an interesting point. Maybe I'm too early to publish it...but I want to see early response from people with antimainstream genre like this (I should underline that this is not classic otome game). I think you have a point with my grammatical errors though, thanks for noticing (haha, it's so obvious I'm embarrassed).
@Leon : Yep, I haven't heard about it.
@Ben Ayoo : I'm glad trying something different is what you like. Honestly I'm bored with standard otome games too (but why are they so popular and never lost their target audience anyway? Hahaha)
@verysunshine : My website is....yeah, so-so. But since I published it on Google Play the visitor counts increased drastically...that's...something unexpected (but good).

Re: How To Make Your Visual Novel Get More Audience
You say in your last comment that your game is not your classic otome game...but nothing about what you've shown so far would indicate that. I mean, when I first looked at your materials, it looked like a classic otome to me...and I wrote it off.
So, if you want audiences like me, who aren't interested in the classic otome, you'll need to be very careful to craft your marketing to highlight the the non-otome aspects of the game.

Re: How To Make Your Visual Novel Get More Audience
Based on the definition of otome game on Wikipedia :
"An otome game (乙女ゲーム otome gēmu?, literally "girl game") is a story based video game that is targeted towards a female market. Generally one of the goals, besides the main plot goal, is to develop a romantic relationship between the female player character and one of several male, or occasionally female characters. While the plots of otome games differ greatly, there is usually a single female main character, and several good-looking males of varying "types"."
In my case the protagonist is a male, so it doesn't count as one. Moreover it's only focused on relationship between one guy and one girl. Just want to get this straight....

Re: How To Make Your Visual Novel Get More Audience
Pardon me, it is my fault for being sloppy in my language. Let me be more clear and use something other than the word "otome."
I generally dislike high school romance games regardless of whether the protagonist is male or female.
I generally like art games and mature games.
Your game, as currently advertised, looks like a high school romance game.
This means I'm not interested in the game as advertised. Additionally, I think you will lose that portion of the audience who is similarly disinterested in high school romance games.
So. If you game is somehow not your average high school romance game and you want to get audiences who are disinterested in high school romance, you would need to put some thought into how to signal to people like me that your game has something I'd be interested in. Right now, your advertising doesn't do that for me.

Re: How To Make Your Visual Novel Get More Audience
I believe this is a wrong forum to ask such a question. Not to mention your question is really unclear and vague, but fine, I'll answer it as I can.otome games wrote:actually i am about to make a visual novel myself but where do i get the pics from

If you mean "I draw it manually (on the paper), and then how to get it appear on computer" then you should scan it.
If you mean "I already have the pic ready on computer, and then how to get it appear on your VN" then you should learn a bit how to insert your pic to your VN (including programming too).
First, if you're going to make visual novel (by yourself, including the programming), you should determine what engine you have to used to make it (example : Ren'Py? Novelty?). Different engine means different approach/way. You should be able to browse some quick tutorial/manual regarding the engine you used to make VN. I won't explain it from zero because it's too much problem for me, Hope that helps.

Re: How To Make Your Visual Novel Get More Audience
Firstly, I want to take notes from other people that have said literally about genre and target. If you want to get more audience, make sure your target audience is as large as you want it to be, with genre that most people like. Let's say that recently, Otome games have a large amount of audience, then you should go for it. Let's say that Mystery games are popular in France only, then if you have French ability, then go for it. If not, and Mystery games are not so popular in other countries, then you just can expect less audience than other popular themes.
Other than that, if you have made the VN already, posting the news to Facebook, Twitter, and other social media is the fastest way to promote. If you made it for mobile (Android/iOS) make sure to update it often, at least once a month. It doesn't have to be something big, updating keywords and information is quite enough.
Also, be careful with first impression. I've searched for your Eraser game in Android and I couldn't tell if it was a game or application, judging from its icon.
Other than that, sometimes it's about luck, also trial and error. Flappy Bird was played by an artist 1 year after released, then it got its popularity. So, who knows that next month you can get something like that.

Then, you should do something to build your community, if you're considering this way. For example, Pewdiepie has a lot of fans in Youtube because of his game reviews, and when he wanted to build game, people were queued for it.tiya_nofurita wrote:I don't really have many followers on Youtube either

Re: How To Make Your Visual Novel Get More Audience
I'm quite aware that my visual novel is not a common genre for everyone, but let's see if anyone interested with my ideaErnestalice15 wrote:Firstly, I want to take notes from other people that have said literally about genre and target. I don't really want to make another otome game, although it's very popular it's such an overused theme.
But don't you think just updating without significant change will annoy people because they have to download it again and again?Ernestalice15 wrote:Other than that, if you have made the VN already, posting the news to Facebook, Twitter, and other social media is the fastest way to promote. Actually, if you search on Google Play under the keyword "visual novel", ERASER always appear on top 10 list I think it's between #4 or #5,Ernestalice15 wrote:Also, be careful with first impression. Haha Flappy Bird sure is addicting (from psychological viewpoint it clearly has very big advantage)....that's why it's soooo popular.Ernestalice15 wrote:Other than that, sometimes it's about luck, also trial and error. It's really hard to manage more than one account. Re: How To Make Your Visual Novel Get More Audience
Well, every genre has its own market as I've said before. It doesn't mean that no one will be interested in what you're trying to do. What I'm trying to tell is that, it needs more than perfect story, effort, etc. to make less popular theme beating the popularity of most popular theme.tiya_nofurita wrote:I'm quite aware that my visual novel is not a common genre for everyone, but let's see if anyone interested with my idea
I don't really want to make another otome game, although it's very popular it's such an overused theme.
I'm not suggesting you to make popular theme, if you don't like it, by the way. Just make what you want to make.
Look what people have said to you at the review section in Google Play. That's what you should fix for the next updates. I really appreciate any update because it means that the developer is still developing the game. I usually don't play often most of my games, but when I see notification, I'm kind of curious about it and open it again (it's not that I really read the updates, the notification itself is what bothers me).tiya_nofurita wrote:But don't you think just updating without significant change will annoy people because they have to download it again and again?
For a fact, there are games that increase popularity by changing keywords once a week for the sake of trial and error. LINE Get Rich updates are once in 2 days. Most of popular games update a lot more often than 1 month. I think, there is a way for the game to download only for the updates, not the entire game, right? Every day, I have at least 1 of my game updated automatically in my phone (which means I'm not opening it) and when I open and play the game, it has the newest update. That way, I don't find it annoying.
What I found annoying are things like these :
1. Long download for 1 update like it takes forever and you must open the game to do that. Not to mention it happens almost everyday. (The Simpsons Tapped Out do this, but I still played it for months. It's indeed annoying, but I played it anyway because it's fun.)
2. Bugs, but no update at all even after waiting for a month. If it's not too annoying and the game itself is fun, I'll still play it. But if it's too annoying, I'll leave it untouched and when I want more space in my phone, I'll uninstall it.
Notice that as long as it's fun, some little annoyance is forgivable (at least for me).
I didn't mean that your VN is hard to search because of the keyword. I meant that the icon is not like a game icon. I've searched for "Eraser Visual Novel" and actually it's the first on the list, but I had to scroll down and up and down again to identify it, because I thought it was an application. loltiya_nofurita wrote:Actually, if you search on Google Play under the keyword "visual novel", ERASER always appear on top 10 list I think it's between #4 or #5,
Just make sure your icon looks interesting enough for gamers to take a deeper look. This is what I seek when I'm searching for a game : Genre first, icon comes next (it kind of summarize the overall game art), get inside and look the screenshot, check the rating and review, game info comes last. Well, people can be different, but there are many people like me in this world (at least, my friends and family are mostly like that).
Yes, indeed, the gameplay is sure addictive and good. But, there are so many good games ended up being unnoticed because of so many things, and two of them are luck and release timing. Bad games most likely won't sell well, but it doesn't mean that good games always on the top. There are tons of games come out and updated everyday in mobile gaming. For one good game to be noticed among them needs either luck or good marketing process (that can cost much).tiya_nofurita wrote:Haha Flappy Bird sure is addicting (from psychological viewpoint it clearly has very big advantage)....that's why it's soooo popular.
Yeah, I think you have a right decision on that. It's not that building audience in 1 place is easy, so focusing in 1 or 2 is good, I think. So, good luck. You will always have my support.tiya_nofurita wrote:It's really hard to manage more than one account.
