How to credit yourself?
I'm wondering how many people on here, when writing up the end credits for their projects, use their real name or a username or a pseudonym? Are there any benefits and drawbacks to these approaches?

When using your real name, the benefit is being clearly recognizable.
The drawback is also being clearly recognizable.
Depending on if you want a reputation associated with your real name and what kind of reputation a specific game would give you, you could or better should not use your real name.
Marcel Weyers for example is well-known in the German VN community for his translations and games, and a few people outside this niche probably also know him. That means that the internet will give lots of information about him, should a possible future employer google his name.
If you use your real name in the credits, it better be a game you would still want to be associated with in 5-10 years. When in doubt, always use a pseudonym. It's easy to come out of a pseudonym if need be, it's not easy to hide behind one once your real name is out.

I have no idea what percent of people use their real name, pseudonyms or both. I think the cons are the first thing to consider: if you release under your real name it is probably going to be linked to your dev pseudonym now if it isn't already. This means anything you've said to anyone as CaveatLector you have effectively said as though it were on your personal Facebook or w/e social media you use. I've said a lot of stupid things under the handle "Tempus" (which I've used since I was maybe 17), ranging from embarrassing to borderline bigoted. When I chose to use my real name with this handle I was very conscious that it would link them and that any potential employer diligent enough can now find stupid things I've said in the past. (I just don't care.)
The main benefit I see is that I can link potential employers to my previous work under my real name. Even if things I do in VNs aren't related to a job I'm applying for, if the job isn't plain entry level they're gonna want someone who can get stuff done, can take the initiative, work with others, etc. And difficult personal projects are a good way to demonstrate that and be a starting point for talking about how you can manage your own time, how you've managed freelancers to work on your project and negotiated with them, the multi-disciplinary nature of games, etc. That looks good to an employer. I'd imagine anyway. I'm no employer. I'm literally just typing words.

I guess I'd use whatever pseudonym I use at the moment.
Not only it prevents you from going down the slippery slope of greed, it also helps you keep your privacy!

What does that mean precisely? I can understand the second point about privacy., for sure, but what does the "slippery slope of greed" entail? I know it's slightly off-topic, but I'm legit curious to know what that means.Not only it prevents you from going down the slippery slope of greed
