ah.... why not just zip the psd files?

oops! nevermind. Sorry Jake didn't see the bottom part of your post.
just so this post isn't completely useless, here's a late lsf@5 drawing. (inspired by a chat with F.I.A. about rentarot actually)

How do you make your games? I see. Thank you for the prompt replies, but it is my considered opinion that you're doing it wrong inefficiently because I am a perfushenal professional. Do it my way this way and we can all ascend VN Nirvana together while allowing me to stroke my ego you will improve much faster. Also, please don't forget to thank me for this constructive critique or I will cry and bore you to death respond appropriately with a tl;dr rant discourse of epic adequately lengthy proportions. - Sarcasm Veiled in Euphemism: Secrets of Forum Civility by lordcloudx (Coming soon to an online ebook near you.)

Jake >> need shadows.

I also found that 'doll'-type backgrounds are most useful just as that... backgrounds. Not as awe-inspiring Makoto-Shinkai-esque imagery, which best work as foreground artwork.

Shadows, neater lines, texturing... there's a reason I said it was 'rough'. The point was more "would this actually be useful to anyone?" :P

It might be a bit late to pledge something, but I'll be making a few songs for people to use. Unfortunately, I don't have the best soundfonts or composition programs available, so they may sound rather unpolished. ^^;

This first one is probably best described as a generic "day-to-day" tune. Hope it doesn't shatter any eardrums...

Next up is a song that's probably better for softer moments. Like the previous song, it is ready to be looped ad nauseum without being terribly noticeable when it comes around. Any comments or critiques on this piece or the other one would be most welcome and appreciated. ^^

I would like to write one more, but I'm not sure what would be most useful for people in general. At the time being, it's a toss-up between a more-romantic "love theme" of some sort or a "lonely"/"depressing" one. Which one would you need more? Votes and/or suggestions for this would be great! It's a bit easier to make something to-order than to throw something out and hope people like/use it. @@

Speaking for myself, I found quite a few "depressing" themes offered free on Jamendo, but very few "romantic" ones without words / suitable for background music. So I'd be more likely to use a "romantic-moment" theme ^.^
I released 3 VNs, many moons ago: Elven Relations (IntRenAiMo 2007), When I Rule The World (NaNoRenO 2005), and Cloud Fairy (the Cute Light & Fluffy Project, 2009).
More recently I designed the board game Steam Works (published in 2015), available from a local gaming store near you!

Progress!

Because I am actually still doing this... ;-)

(Unfortunately, I injured my mouse hand last weekend doing just this kind of thing for the webcomic, so it's slower progress than I'd anticipated... :/)

Seeing that my Emotional AI Engine has not attracted too much interest, I've decided to give something else to the community (I'll keep working on the Engine anyway). I hope this is more useful to the average Ren'py user: it's a module that enables easily defining new text tags to be used on say and menu statements (they can also be used on other places, such as UI widgets, but it takes a bit more of work).

I'm releasing the module under the Lesser GPL (version 3), so it can be used by non-free programs. Long story short, the LGPL says that if you are distributing my library (ie: as part of your finished game), you're required to distribute my code with it, but it doesn't require you to distribute your code.
The demo scripts included, however, are in the public domain, so you can make whatever you want with them.

Finally, I have to point out that forward compatibility is not guaranteed: minor changes in further versions of Ren'py may cause this module to break... this is because I'm using some functions that are not documented anywhere, of which I could only learn about by exploring Ren'py's source and some trial&error; and they seem to be written with only, or mostly, internal usage in mind. Anyway, if changes in future versions of Ren'py cause this code to break, I'll try my best to fix it ASAP.

I have failed to meet my deadlines so many times I'm not announcing my projects anymore. Whatever I'm working on, it'll be released when it is ready :P

Well, the result of a month of inactivity is that I got nothing done (surprising uh?). I can partly blame the fact I was sick for a week, but otherwise, I can only blame my own inability to keep focused on a task ~_~... So... in the end, I have nothing to offer except my sincere apologies. Oh, and please hit me on the head the next time I promise to do something >.>...

I'm wondering if I might have to apologise myself... I've been resting my mouse hand, and it's getting better, but it's still not totally recovered. And unfortunately, there's no getting around straight lines - and thus mouse use - for buildings...

I'm hoping to get something done this evening, but... :/

(On a related note, though, do any of you guys use OpenCanvas, and know of a way to make it draw straight lines? I can do it in Photoshop by holding shift then clicking the endpoints, but in OC I can't even find a tool which draws a straight line unless I want to use the rectangle tool for it...)

Jake, which version of oC?

If you have 4.5 or 4, there's a squiggly line in the tool's option box:

Awesome! I don't know how, but I'd totally missed that. Thanks!

(Even better, unlike the Photoshop equivalent it ignores pressure, so I can use the tablet stylus! I think this may be goodbye, Photoshop... ;-))

So, yeah.

I feel bad about it, but I've not really made sufficient progress to call anything finished, thanks to afore-mentioned injury, andit's starting to cut tight to the time I really need to spend on our NaNo project to avoid letting down the other team members. Is there anyone who would actually use such backgrounds for NaNo? If there is, I can make a proper effort to get this PSD 'finished' (recolourable clean versions of all the bits in the prototype, at least) by March; if not, I'll finish it, but I'll finish it after NaNo. Anyone?
