How is your project going (or not going)?

#1 Post by Lesleigh63 »

Visual novels can take a long time to make and I sometimes come to the forums just to get a bit of a boost knowing that others are working on their projects and encountering ups and downs like I am.

I'm writing at the moment (been doing so for the last five months). Really slow progress but it's growing day by day - 19000 words at the moment.

So, how's everyone else doing? I'd like to hear.

Hard to gauge. On the one hand, having the script done is a huge relief. On the other, it means that the only way left to go is forward - directly into completely new territory for me. It's a bit daunting, and unlike with before where I could use wordcount, I don't quite have a grasp on the metric I can use to determine what progress should be looking like from here on out.

Nothing to do but keep on keepin' on.

I started working on a short little side project...then nephews and nieces happened. Granted, what I'm currently making is probably going to end up being an RPG though.

Writing this draft has taken longer than I'd like, but I'll get myself unstuck eventually . . .

Only got rough outline and a few sketches done, not enough to warrant a WIP thread just yet. Work is keeping me busy and steam sale just had to happen

I started back up on a short project which was basically shelved because I had too much going on at the time to think seriously about it, and I am feeling excited about the new inspiration I am having while fleshing out the story! I have set some non-creative goals for it to help me measure my progress, so I am excited to try to meet them. And, my friend suggested that I create a production schedule for it to help me pace myself. I have never done that before, so I am really excited to try it and see what happens. *giddy*

Too many to count! My current ones (ASA and AtPF) are slow but steady. I'm focusing on the art right now.

How is it going? With difficulty. I have to focus on my (short) summer courses now (which will also have papers due a bit later on), and I still need to brainstorm a few more arcs for Blackbird, or possibly rethink the "arc" angle all together.

We had bedbugs, as I mentioned awhile ago. So we just now, 6.5 months later, have gotten our lives back in order and I successfully finished my college project. But my pet project, Blackout, has to remain on ice til I can afford a reliable artist. My friend is cool and all...but friends do not always good business partners make.

I'm personally working of a few projects, most of them on the planning part:

-One is a parody, which I actually started writing and designing stuff for... Buuut I'll have to start the writing again, since I dared to write it in English and I just can't make it, it's too complex to handle it.
-Another one is a remake of my Spanish only VN, "Vampiros por Navidad". I'm getting everything ready to begin writing and drawing, I'm scared I'll end up becoming too ambitious with this one so I'm being careful.
-Two are more existencialists ideas, but I'm still planning how to handle them. Actually, one of them may even become a walking game instead of a visual novel, so once again it's more of a long-term project.
Artist and voice actor, trying to actually write stuff.

Working hard on my editor, sometimes it crashes but i solve it everytime, there are a lot of sketches of how things should work because its kinda hard to make the event editor specially talking about different ways of interpret it because I need to make conditionals from scratch and stuff like that and it does weird things but its somehow going forward xD.

My other project is my VN, I didnt start the project but I'm working on writing the story, the story branches, the romances, the scenaries, how many chapters etc... So I cann have an idea of how much work will it be and if I need to make it more simple.

So kinda good, a bit boring to write all time UIs and watch them thinking "And that's is... cool? Or not?" and remaking them trying to make it the best...

Yeah is gonna be a lot of work :)

Im not felling to good about it. I dont mind spending months on something but Im getting pretty tired of my own personal limitations. It never feels good to have to cut back on your project. I wana keep to a specific schedule to make the date I set for a demo but I am finding my will to procrastinate stronger than my will to work, the lack of interested people dose not help.

I think if the demo fails to generate enough interest I will end up shelfing the project and working on something much less in magnitude and quality. I make games for people, so its a waste of time if at least 5 fail to show interest.

I might toss the whole Vn genre out if I feel my shi---stuff is just not gunna work out.

Nice thread!

I've been working steadily on the first draft of my script since May. I have a set word count to achieve every day, and so far I haven't missed a single one. Some days it's harder than others, but watching the word count go up motivates me more than anything else. I'm at 54k words so far, and my deadline is July 20th. Halfway there!

I'm also done with character design for all the main characters, which is a relief. I'm feeling a bit anxious about the actual sprite work, though, since I'm new to it, and I want it to look well. I'm using this summer to hone my art skills, and I also need to start tinkering with ren'py sooner or later. ;_;

I can safely say that I'm excited about releasing my project (Cafe Memoria) pretty soon! Done quite a bit of testing, and now doing some prep work for release day - like drafts of blog posts, threads, site updates, etc... want to make sure release day isn't botched. :)

Things are coming along really well for my current main project ^^. I've had to do a lot of misc things but that's finally almost done and I'll be able to start focusing on actually making the script :>.

It'll still be a couple of months before I make a thread/anything public for it though.
In-Progress:
Floret Bond, XOXO Blood Droplets, Our Life
