Recruitment process

#1 Post by Fluxx » Sat Sep 26, 2015 12:39 pm

Right. So I made a quick demo for my novel a while back and posted it on a couple forums (Not here) I got no responses on 2 of them, but I did receive heavy critique on the 3rd. Needless to say I took a brief hiatus from writing but I'm ready to get back into it. Problem is I'm not sure how to go about getting a group together and when.

It would preferable to create the whole thing by myself, but that would be impossible to do within a realistic time frame. Basically I need help with certain things.

I think the best thing to do right now would be to recruit an editor and programmer but I'm not sure if I should try recruiting an artist this early or not. It would be too long to wait until everything was written to start, i feel.

Recommendations?

If you are the writer, I think you should write the whole thing.
Now I wouldn't think of it as "waiting until everything is written to start"--because writing means you've already started.
But if everything is written, then your editor has something to edit.
If everything is written, then you know exactly what art you need to commission.
If everything is written you know exactly what your programmer needs to do.

Also, maybe you end up doing it all yourself in the end anyway? You are your own boss, you don't have to worry about timeframe.
A Close Shave:
*Last Thing Done (Aug 17): Finished coding emotions and camera for 4/10 main labels.
*Currently Doing: Coding of emotions and camera for the labels--On 5/10
*First Next thing to do: Code in all CG and special animation stuff
*Next Next thing to do: Set up film animation
*Other Thing to Do: Do SFX and Score (maybe think about eye blinks?)

If anything I would learn how to program in basic Renpy script even if you arent gonna program the GUI. For the art, you dont NECESSARILY have to wait until the entire story is done as long as you make a good outline and stick to it.

a good order would be to finish up writing the whole story, then hiring a programmer to implent all the gameplay features you wish to add (if its not a kinetic novel) and all the necessary parts of programming if you can't. Those are the most important things. If you're sure of finishing it off you can then hire an artist, given you've already thought of the character designs. Give the art to the programmer so they can add it to the game and you'd be done with all the essential things :) you can then add the music, gui and if you want to add voicing then you can. It becomes easy if you have alot of dedication and do things orderly

trooper6@-

I can understand this, before I didn't agree with it but i'm starting to come around. Imma focus on writing for now. I may still recruit an proofreader and tester though.

SundownKid@-

I've done this for the most part. Only thing I have yet to learn is programming choices. Outline has been finished for the longest.

morg@-Agreed. Thanks.
