Sprite making help

#1 Post by Natsu Dragneel »

Hello,
I wanna make a VN, but I'm not really good at drawing.
I wanna know is it ok to use dress-up game sprites from the internet?
I already have II Character Alpha and AnimeGen but I need more :)
Do you know any good programs?

you have to read their copyrights or FAQ on what you can do with them, if you cant find any then dont use them.

nope, they are the only kind in the internet.

As Natsu stated the main problem for you will be copyright. You will have to take a look at the product you want to use and see if there are any copyright mentionings there. If not then you have to lok at it if its the worst case for you and don't use it. If there are copyright informations then you need to look if the type of game you want to do there: Commercial / non commercial is mentioned and if it is allowed to do what you want there.

Problem is if you dont do that and the creator of the sprite program finds out the least he can do is press you for destroying your work / taking it off the internet.
In the worst case scenario with both of you being from america there could even be a court case. Not sure if that IS the case but from what I know about and hear
about the american law system it COULD be possible!

Like what firecat and Wolf stated, there may be copyright issues so it's best to check if you're allowed to use the images beforehand.

I don't think there are many free programs that generate sprites for you and allow you to use them as well (I haven't heard of any, at least) but you can check out the Creative Commons section for sprites that you can use without worry for copyright. Just make sure that you read the terms-of-use before usage, though.
