Probably a dumb question, but what exactly is nanoreno and sunofes? I've seen them mentioned a couple times across these forums but I'm not entirely sure what they are. Some kind of VN competition or something? Or is that a question for elsewhere?

It's definitely not for this thread, but NaNoRenO is basically like NaNoWriMo, but for visual novels-- aka finish a (visual) novel in a month. SuNoFes is Summer Novel Festival, and I think is from Itch.io, but I'm not sure myself. Here's the page that I can find when googling it. They're both not competitions, but basically just "finish your vn within allotted time", which encourages actually finishing something as a practice for creating instead of focusing on perfectionistic polish.
