Online grammar checker... is it reliable?

#1 Post by wtfman » Sun Feb 21, 2016 10:20 am

Hi. I'm trying to translate my game Korean to English. I can translate Korean to English word by word or simple sentences. But I don't know about English grammar. So I can't translate too long sentences.

Whatever, I found an online grammar checker site. I'm already knew about services like that. I'm using Ginger Checker(http://www.gingersoftware.com/ko/grammarcheck). So, I have one doubt about this... Is it reliable thing? or cause some errors? When I'm using another Korean grammar checker, It seems reliable. So, how about this in the eyes of the native speaker? Please reply your opinion. Thanks.

no, every machine i try to translate (my spanish to english) has always came out wrong. just look at this sentence, it works in my native language but not in english.

Original sentence:
Pues no, las máquinas trato de traducir siempre ha salido mal. Mira esta frase, que funciona en mi lengua materna pero no en Inglés.

No, translation machines are far from perfect, and from a visual novel a certain prose level is required.

What yo can do is to get a professional translator, or if your english is good enough, you can do the translation yourself, then have a proofreader/editor rewrite your text into something that sounds better.

While it's geared more towards minor grammatical mistakes than, well, complete phrasing/syntax overhauls, Grammarly is the best grammar checker I've seen. It's purely in English, though (I think?). Otherwise, I agree with Keinart that it'd probably be best to find either a translator or a proofreader.
