Novels About Online Games
hello, everyone. it's sharkmittens.
i'm wondering; would you play a visual novel (mainly) set in the world of an online game?
is this an overdone idea, or an idea that's happened but hasn't been done right?
is it one that's been touched on at all?
let me know about your thoughts!

I've seen this before. um... about 10 years ago... in Korean online game magazine... I don't know it really released or cancelled.

Re: Novels About Online Games
I think I'd like it very much! Maybe it's going to be like roleplaying your own characters? There's something about online RPG that's as rich as a fantasy setting, but with its shamelessly systematized look. : D
The plot of the first English VN I played, RE:Alistair++, actually revolved on the mystery character from the online RPG played by the casts. The different chibi sprites to show their RPG counterparts are cute! However, the actual setting is in the real world.
I could mention another title, but that's not something I've played, so I'll hold back.
Other than these two, sadly I haven't seen that much of this setting. Once you get a demo ready I'll definitely give much comment/input/fangirl gushing over the game!

Re: Novels About Online Games
@ wtfman - interesting! it seems to be more of an rpg though, and it hasn't been translated, so i guess it doesn't really fit in to the realm of EVNs.
10 years ago, though? wow! so it's an idea that isn't commonly done. .
@ fuicchi - i'm glad it brings interest!
that's exactly what it would be like, playing your characters. it would be quite the endeavour, but i think it could be very fun.
i've never heard of RE:Alistair++, i'll have to check it out!
i'll let you know what i come up with!

Re: Novels About Online Games
I don't think online games are common in VNs-- at all. I haven't been playing much, but the only one I can remember is pretty much RE:Alistair++. It's definitely a great game you should check out. Actually, there's another one I remember... It was a very adorable, chibi-style thing... I believe it was actually a game ABOUT online games, and the only scene I can remember is an admin going all cool. He has white hair. I think. I think I played it way back in 2012/2013. If anyone can help me remember, that would be great u__u;;
In any case, you definitely should make it if you have an idea for it. There are a lot of aspects that's never been touched in the very few vns there are about it, and I haven't seen any lately, either. Honestly, it kind of surprises me. I mean, online interactions with a wide cast of people with different schedules and lives you only get to hear through text? Maintaining friendships through game? The more I think about it, the more pumped I get ahaha. Make it if you have ideas!

Re: Novels About Online Games
right?? i like all of those aspects, too!
not to mention the inclusion of a.i. possibilities. . there's a lot to think about!
i'll post a progress thread when i start it, but i already have big ideas.
i'm excited!
i'll definitely check out RE;Alistair++, i'm excited to know the 'genre idea' is sort of established.
i'm definitely going to be touching on a lot of interesting things though, so this should be neat.

Re: Novels About Online Games
I saw this idea done a lot in anime and manga, but not so often in VNs. I actually like the idea, but I had to abandon the anime and manga because I wasn't satisfied with the story quality. So if you'll be able to do something good I'd be delighted.

I'd love to play such game) besides re:alistair I can remember Nanolife, SC2VN is a bit similar though they play Starcraft but it's a cool game, and the game where the game character contacted the player guy to save their game world, though I'm not sure if the game was MMORPG and not a common RPG.

Re: Novels About Online Games
Haha, I'm making one! I'm hoping it will resonate well as it's something not often seen.
The only other game I can think of that's similar is Cibele, though not a visual novel as such.
