Similar communities/forums/websites?

#1 Post by LiveTurkey »

I wanted to make a running list of all of the other forums or communities that I know off that are similar to lemmasoft.
Also feel free to add communities that relate to Visual novel building such as places to buy/commission art or writing.

I'm going to list what I know and I hope everyone can add all the one's I missed.

This is a great initiative! I'm always curious about where to meet creators and advertise one's project.

For commissions, I know many artists use tumblr as their main/only platform, but not of any good commission promo blogs. Suggestions anyone?

Yeah I've heard a lot about tumblr but I don't know how to find the artist on there or how to find their blogs.

Here's a blog called Emergency Commissions. It accepts commission price lists from artists who are in need of cash http://emergencycommissions.tumblr.com/

Commission them, plus help them out. It's a good blog.

For finding good artists, you should use https://www.artstation.com/

Artstation is great, though I wonder how many of its top level artists are remotely affordable for VN devs, haha... of course, there should be folks who aren't that high on the professional scale too so definitely recommend checking that out.

So far, I think Lemmasoft is still the best VN developer forum/community I can find on the internet. Fuwanovel is mostly about translation by fans and the recruitment thread is not as organized as Lemmasoft. Can't open Reddit because it's blocked in my country -.-

Artstation is like the place where suuupeeer pro artists gather and the gigs usually came from big (game developer) companies, so you can guess: prepare money.

Deviantart has more friendly job forum where you can post your paid job : http://forum.deviantart.com/jobs/offers/
or if you're looking for artist that open commission : http://forum.deviantart.com/jobs/services/
or if you want to do skill trade : http://forum.deviantart.com/community/projects/

If you're looking for artist available for commission on tumblr, you can simply type 'art commission' on the search bar. I just did that I got huge amount of commission post along with their information.

Isn't Steam has VN community too? But last time I check, they're not very active =(

I have two quick additions to make:
 1. I'm making a site catering to VN and story-focused game devs called StoryDevs. So far that site is a demo of what you can expect from the search, though being a demo it's just functional on desktop at the moment. If you'd like to read more about it there's this LSF thread. Passed 300 handle reservations this month which was nice!
 2. ArtStation. I'm on ArtStation and work on VNs. So... yeah. VN people are on there. All you need to make an account is an email address and a linkedin account (they do this to help with spam iirc) — you don't need to be some veteran artist to join. Besides, artists with high rates exist on most general-purpose art sites anyway. Plenty of popular artists on DeviantArt do commissions for like ~$500 per piece. Also, I suspect that ArtStation's landing page is curated to some degree... though maybe I'm wrong about that.
StoryDevs — easy-to-search profiles for VN devs (under construction!)
