Which videogame exhibitons should I have to go?

Hello,

I'm Albert, a freelance composer for videogames.


I have attended some videogame exhibitions on Spain (country where I reside) and I plan to attend Gamescom this August.

Attending exhibitions it's something I believe is important, I'm planning to know which are all the exhibitions that I should attend in europe. My goal (important) is to actually meet the developers there, and have some conversation where I can offer my music services.

I'm looking for exhibitions where I can meet videogame studios with experience. If the studios they normally attend it are mainly indie studios, no problem.

If it's an exhibition focused on gamejams or universitary projects, please don't share it here.

It couldn't hurt to try local. If you have any local indie groups that host events (meetups, exhibitions, etc.), it's a great way to network and they're probably have a better idea of where to look in your area aside from the big ones like Gamescom.

Hmm, there's also GDC in Frankfurt too if I'm not mistaken. (I don't know that much about game conventions in Europe actually.)

One of my friend once attended an event calles Slush (http://www.slush.org/) as part of startup accelerator programme. I'm not sure how many video games developer are there, since the event itself aims more for startups rather than game developers.

Oh, I did a little search and found that there will be RTX in London too this year.

I've done a lot of thinking around the same question lately. Yes, international connections are great (especially if you have met them in person SEVERAL times) but local stuff is where your money often is. They are your real crew, they are the people who are fighting the good fight with you. They are there.

I am not saying you should not pay attention to the European industry as a whole, I'm saying try to be as active as you can where you are.

Oh, and an important note, go there because you care about games. If you go there waving the "I'm a composer. I'm here gig hunting"-flag, you will most likely turn people away.

There's AdventureX in London, every winter. It's an adventure game expo that has also featured VNs such as "One Night Stand" in the past, and it's great for networking.

Yes, I attended a local meeting a few days ago and I made some cool connections with people involved in making games. So yes, that is definetely a good thing to do
