Maybe, but you better watch out for Samu-kun, he's a potential threat... and besides, aren't you supposed to be working on something Cute, Light and Diabetic?...

Aw no...

(Actually, I'm busy so I won't even be participating in RenO. But you shouldn't take that to mean you should cause havoc. I'll be having a frank chat with Sake-Bento to make sure that you're properly occupied all throughout the RenO season.)

Don't let that stop you. :D

Status report!

Things are definitely looking good for the Tall Tales NaNoRenO project (DaFool and me). The dialogue script is complete, the entire decision tree is playable (and, as far as I can see, bug-free), and I'm currently working DaFool's artwork into the game. I won't go into too much detail for now, but it's going to be a situation comedy (using many of the clichés of a sitcom) with a slightly ecchi approach, though probably non-adult as a whole. (Some good old-fashioned dirty humor, a few risky themes, a few suggestive situations but no nudity whatsoever.)

I'm currently working to spice up the whole thing with some extras like a gallery or a jukebox - not that I know how to code that in Ren'Py, but I hope I can figure it out until the end of March. I won't spoil any images, though maybe, I'll give you one or two teaser images when we release the whole thing.

Blah, there is never a good overview of anything  , so I made one: The list of NaNoRenO games, from the beginning until now. It's an experimental page.

Anyway, what I left out intentionally:
- IntRenAiMo games
- games which weren't conceived as NaNoRenO
- games which were released, but were incomplete (episode 1 or similar)
- games which started as NaNoRenO, but were completed at a later stage
- teams and projects that signed up

I think the main problem is that being so vague in definition (it's a good thing *), it's difficult to make a clear line between what is and what is not a nanoreno game. Because even if you "fail", you should still feel a part of that year's nanoreno, even though your game won't get included (even if you finished it later on). So there were definitely many other games which are associated with nanoreno, but aren't listed.

See here:
http://rentarot.angelfire.com/nanoreno.htm
2009 games aren't listed yet.

Comments, suggestions and corrections are welcome.

* I think that it was precisely this lack of formalities that led to NaNoRenO being successful every year, producing either dedicated Nanoreno / intrenaimo games or starting or giving boost to other projects. I am absolutely not suggesting that the rules of nanoreno should be redefined, refined or specified! It would definitely do more damage than good.

Nearly a third of the time up. Time limits are a harsh mistress.

What does NaNoRenO stand for, anyway? NAtional NOvel REN'ai mOnth?

Anyway, term ends on the 14th, so I might be able to try some kind of half month challenge...

It stands for "NaNoWriMo for Ren'Ai". :P

...which as I understand it is in itself a bit of a misnomer, since doesn't "Ren'Ai" imply/mean/look a bit like "romance"?

It was pretty much this, if I remember right (didn't check old threads):

- the "NaNo" part is there to say that this is derived from NaNoWriMo. It does not mean National Novel or anything else, it is there only to show that it's inspired from it.

- the "Ren" part means Ren'Ai, since in 2004 when the idea began to form, the term used by the community wasn't so much visual novels (which it is now), as ren'ai games.

- the "O" is there without any meaning, to make it sound like NaNoWriMo, to round it up nicely.

There were discussions about what to do with the unlogical name, but then it was decided to just leave it alone for tradition's sake.

IntRenAiMo on the other hand is a proper acronym, International Ren'Ai Month.

IIRC, I originally proposed IntRenAiMo as an alternative name for NaNoRenO. I still don't quite understand how it became what it is today.

That's pretty much how I remember it. It doesn't make much sense, but it evokes NaNoWriMo and has a bit of "Ren'Ai" in it, so it stuck.

Awesome!

I'm so looking forward to the output of this year's NaNoRenO :) I enjoyed MorningStar (apart from the over-frequent/long/unskippable combats), so I'm going to enjoy trying MorningStar Zwei; and the hints about the other projects sound fun too :)

(I'm not doing anything for NaNoRenO or IntRenAiMo, in case anyone was wondering. I'm busy working on Elven Relations 2, which might be released in the summer. But I'm cheering you all on :D)
