Assets question

#1 Post by Dreadshadow »

Hello community, sorry if I posted under wrong thread category.

I know that Eileen is a free to use sprite and I am greatufl for that.
Uncle Mugen also metioned that Lucy can also be freely used.

So there is a game named Moonlight Walks, having a sprite called mary_dark.
Also the same questions goes for Sylvie.

Does anyone know if this sprite is free to be used? I mean, if it is distributed under a license, I would love to know about it, and maybe link me to the source of your information, since I searched and couldn't find anything.
Thanks for your time people.

I think the best way to find out is to contact the developer directly. I see that uncle mugen is one of the developer?? You can PM him here or you can also contact American Bishoujo.

Isn't Moonlight Walks just one of PyTom's projects?

You should check out the Creative Commons section.

Build the basics first, then add all the fun bits.

Please check out my games on my itch.io page!

AFAIK, Eileen is not 'free to use', but under an MIT license.

For anyone with licensing questions, this was a great site that helped me to get a full, 100% understanding of licenses:
Understanding Licenses, or, “Can I Use This Asset In My Game?”

And I searched google for what you were asking about, and I didn't see any of those characters (except for Eileen) available anywhere, so I would guess the answer is no unless you get specific permission from a creator.

People sometimes use things without asking; sometimes they can get away with it, especially for a free or fan project. But it's never really "okay" and you'd have problems posting your project to many places if anyone ever complained. In a commercial project, there would be a chance that you could be sued for using it.

I actually always keep a text file in all my projects besides every single asset (same file name and in the same folders) with all the licensing info and the source.

---

And good luck with your project! <3
