What improvements would you like to see in the VNs

#1 Post by usul »

What are aspects of the Visual Novels produced on these forums that you would most like to see improved upon?

Personally I find the starting points of the stories need work. I find that just a background shot with long drawn-out exposition just makes me lose interest and I have to put a lot of effort into getting to the point where the game actually starts. I'd love to see more intros that hook you in with a good strong scene to grab your attention and keep you interested.

For starters, let's improve on not to try so hard on not writing a story for visual novel.

I am moody at the moment, so don't ever try to quote me. Consider the "Cancel" button if you will.

Myself I've found most of the games I've played from here very enjoyable, each in their own ways. The quality might not be professional, but these people are making free games in their leisure time and I think that really should be appreciated... Most games released here are the result of greatest effort that could be spent on the game taking to account that game makers have lives, too. Thus I feel that it would be arrogant and downright foolish for me to ask any more of them, as they are already giving a lot. They give me something good, nice and fluffy for free - seriously, how could I demand anything more? :) VNs that are free of charge are of the noblest kind of charity.

This goes only for those who make games as a hobby and not a profession, of course. Of commercial games I expect a lot more and I don't take them in the same way to begin with, as I consider the free VNs here as stories or even a bit romantically as pieces of the creator's heart. In order to make me actually hand over the little money I have on something that I don't need to begin with, entertainment products, that game has to be something special... Or the work of a starving hobby VNist that usually releases them for free.

Okay before this gets out of hand let me say that I too appreciate everything that's done here and don't want to present an arrogant or elitist point of view that will shy away newcomers from making games.

I want to get people's impressions in general and use that as a guideline to help beginners (like me) to build a better game.

Well, if you want guidelines, one that you could base on my post is... Just make the game. Most people that make grand plans fail to go through the simple process of actually creating the game. ^^; Just do what you can with the time and energy without stressing about whether or not others will like it, or in the case of this thread, consider it better than other LSF OELVNs. Most of them will probably like it anyway, if you just honestly do what you think is a good idea and make it technically as nice as you can without extreme efforts.

My recommendation would be moar cute girls.

But I guess that's not what you're wanting to hear. Actually, what I think Lemmasoft could use more well written H games. The ones we have seen so far have generally lacked a solid plot and have been little more than pornography. The only game that seems to buck the trend is Nettestadt Troll, and that was a GxB game released nearly two years ago. While porn is certainly more "popular," I hope that we can create a game where the plot controls the sex instead of the other way around. Can't we for once have a game where the sex is just a part of the plot that deepens our emotional connection to the story instead of it merely being something for fanboys to fap to?

It'll be nice if there's pretty art in the visual novels. :)

I'm happy with all the customization people has been doing to the game interfaces :D
I'd like to see VNs with more Event CGs and animation (not as in fully animated cutscenes, I know that's a pain in the ass, just small and simple animations) :P

Yes, but it kind of goes against my first recommendation too, so I haven't exactly been tripping over myself to play it yet.

If Jake's heroine isn't cute, then I don't know what is.

Perhaps - but she's older than twelve, so she's outside of Samu-kun's field of interest. :P

...Oy. It's the appearance that counts, not the actual age! >:3

Then Samu's just going to love my new project, which is a sim game about 5 allegedly teenage girls growing up on a spaceship who never seem to age any older than 8, talking about deeply profound philosophical subjects:

Look forward to it! ;)
