What's Best for Voice Actors
Question for voice actors: there is a debate in with my team. Some want to give voice acting auditions early so that voice actors could have a month and a half to try out (it is a small paid and unpaid project). Others said wait until we're exactly sure we know the word count, especially for the paid roles (and we'll probably have that settled by two months). However, if we wait for word counts, there'd be less than a two week window for auditions, and even less time given for actors to do their roles. Which situation is better? We're trying to think of the most considerate path for the V.A.s.

A question - is there a reason you have such a short time window (even after getting the word count)? From my perspective, that seems like a potentially easy solution. (Delay the game by two weeks and give a month audition window.)
Enjoy Eidolon, my free to play game at: https://mutive.itch.io/eidolon, Minion! at: https://mutive.itch.io/minion or Epilogue at: https://mutive.itch.io/epilogue

It seems inconsiderate to not have things like word count finalized before you look for voice actors. A difference of 30,000 words would be a difference of several hours of work for the voice actors.

I suggest you finish writing the script first before finding voice actors. From my experience with them, they'd prefer to have the whole script ready so they could record everything in one session (if the game's not too long). Besides, you don't really need an entire month for auditions; we usually just hold 1 week for it to get it done fast.
