Metropolitan Blues News: New programmer wanted!

#1 Post by Taleweaver »

Hey everybody,

as Blue Lemma has finally decided not to finish the programming, I'm looking for someone to complete Metropolitan Blues. The script is finished, the background art material is all ready for post-production, the character art is completed and I have all the music I need... I'm only in lack of someone to put it all together. As I said previously, I can't do Ren'Py, but if someone can (and wants to), I'd be happy to give him or her all my material so that he/she can complete it. Oh - and the game even has an omake :)

Anyone interested?

Well, I'm interested in giving it a shot. :P

I haven't really had much experience actually programming with Ren'Py outside of tinkering with it a bit, but the language is intuitive enough to easily do most of the stuff most visual novels can, like displaying text and pictures with transitions and playing music.

If most of the programming needed is within that scope, then it's all good. :P

MetBlues is just a visual novel, so it's nothing beyond the Ren'Py basics, I suppose. It IS rather lengthy, though. Give me a mail address (preferrably by PM) to which I can send you the source material.

I'd also like to offer any assistance I can on getting MB up and going on Ren'Py. Depending on what format the script is currently in, it might be possible to automatically convert it into Ren'Py format, which could save quite a bit of boring work.

I doubt that - there is merely a "pure text" script without any character interaction lines inbetween. If you'd like to be of assistance, contact Kikered and ask him how you can help. He's the programmer now; it's up to him.

You mean like there's no direct speech? Or that the text is simply put into paragraphs like a book? If it's the latter, it's not that hard to replace every ". ? !" with the same character plus a paragraph character (effectively giving every sentence a new line), it may speed up conversion.

Hehe, I already ended up copying and pasting most of it one line at a time between the script and the Ren'Py code.

However, doing it the slower way helped me get a good feel of the story and find a few typos. :P

Re: PyTom - If you don't mind possibly spoiling the story for yourself, it would be nice if you could debug/test it once the code is done.

I really hope you like the story - any questions about how it all fits together?

I don't have a problem with this, although most of the checks that I used to do are now in lint. Still, I can check for style/performance issues if you want.

It's up to you (and Taleweaver).

Any idea what the timeframe will be? I'll be out of town for a few days centered around July 16th.

Essentially, we're in the final stages of production :) Feel free to do as much proofreading as you want to. I'm not a native speaker, so I'm bound to make mistakes.

It's good to hear this is finally coming together! =)
Btw, can you please credit the artwork to my name, Rio, rather than my username here? Thanks!

Sure we can and we will. Artwork by Rio, that's how it will appear in the game.

Also, as it's no longer a LemmaSoft game, we should decide on a production team name. Tall Tales Productions, anyone?
