Planet EVN

#1 Post by PyTom »

What do people think of having a planet-style blog aggregator, similar to:

http://planet.python.org/

The software that runs it is open source, and I could fairly easily set it up on my server. But we'd need bloggers to start publishing full-text feeds, and to agree to be aggregated.

EDIT:

To have your blog added, please post a message in this thread with the URL of your RSS feed. To be added, your blog needs to have a supermajority of EVN-related content, or else an EVN-specific tag feed.

I'm not quite sure whether I'll be able to contribute heavily, but I can offer all the reviews that I wrote of English visual novels in the past and any future reviews that I might write.

The biggest problem though is that I generally don't write reviews unless a game really knocks me off my socks. I want people to play only the very best, so I've been holding off on writing negative reviews. Knowing that most mediocre visual novels don't have enough publicity to even be downloaded a couple of times, what's the point of negative publicity?

I've been toying with the idea of blogging about EVNs. I'm not very familiar with feed aggregators. Could the aggregator take only posts from my WordPress blog that have a certain tag, or would I have to start a separate blog for EVN stuff?

samu>> I think development notes and release announcements are as interesting as reviews, although reviews are welcome.

lunasspecto>> Yes, I believe it can filter on tag.

I would be willing to help, what exactly would I be doing. I understand writing reviews but I'm curious is there more to it?

I'm not sure this is really something people need to help out with. The idea is that people blog like they normally would, and those blogs get aggregated onto a feed, which people can view.

The general idea is that it's often hard for a new EVN-blog to get readers, especially if you're not posting every day. (And most people aren't posting every day.) But I think we're getting enough blogs that we'd get a post or two a day, which is enough to start attracting regular readers. Or something like that... I'm not a blogger myself, so it's really up people with blogs to decide if this is something interesting enough to participate in.

Sounds like a good idea then. Maybe this will encourage me to update my blog more often.

Sounds good to me. It's very rare for me to post on my own blog about VN dev (or indeed about anything :/), but I'd very much like to see an aggregator of VN-related posts by other people.
I released 3 VNs, many moons ago: Elven Relations (IntRenAiMo 2007), When I Rule The World (NaNoRenO 2005), and Cloud Fairy (the Cute Light & Fluffy Project, 2009).
More recently I designed the board game Steam Works (published in 2015), available from a local gaming store near you!

While I think the concept is a good idea (thinking of it as a portal that collectively links many blogs for easy access), I guess it's a matter of whether or not there are enough bloggers. I'm up for it, I'm hoping to start looking at other EVNs as well as starting my own.

It's a nice idea. I just wonder how we could start with everything :)

I'm not sure if I could be a good contributor, but I would like to try - there is always something to write about in the subject matter. At least this could turn a good opportunity for me to improve my english. I also like the idea of a one giant blog-like thing, where all the people could blog and say something in one place. This could turn to be an interesting experience.

Thumbs up from me! :)

I think it sounds interesting. I don't write about EVN's all the time, but I wouldn't mind contributing if I can :)

Well, we have a blog with a fulltext feed already, so take what you want.
The rest is left as an exercise for the reader.

it would be a good idea if you could filter out feeds that concern VN / development (maybe through tags?)
