Artists Can't Charge Paypal Surcharges

My artist had their paypal account closed and their money locked up for six months because they were charging clients Paypal fees. They listed it in their invoice as 'Paypal Fees' and had their account closed.

This is against Paypal's TOS:

4.6 No Surcharges. You agree that you will not impose a surcharge or any other fee for accepting PayPal as a payment method. You may charge a handling fee in connection with the sale of goods or services, as long as the handling fee does not operate as a surcharge and is not higher than the handling fee you charge for non-PayPal transactions

Yes, this is a much discussed point. Not just among artists, but also retailers and vendors of any kind.

Do check your Paypal TOS, as it will vary depending on the country you open the account in and the situation may be different.

Thanks for pointing that out. I see it's been an epidemic lately. I think the artist in the Recruitment & Services Offered need to be put on notice, because many of them are still doing this. It's no fun to have your income for the ENTIRE MONTH locked up. I got refunds so I could pay them another way but other money had been there for a while and there's nothing they can do.
