Does anyone know a good program too or...?

#1 Post by DjKniteX »

I searched the forums, and used the search button but I can't find any good programs or anything to make characters, what do you guys use to make your guy's characters?

Well, most people use GIMP, Photoshop, PaintshopPro or something similar.
Almost any program which allows the use of layers would do :)

OpenCanvas can be used for sketching/coloring/rendering, but you will definitely need another program to make the sprites.

I use GIMP. I have Photoshop Elements, but I prefer GIMP. I also have Sketchbook Express too, but still, I prefer GIMP.

I personally use Photoshop CS2. But only because I am too lazy and poor to buy the newer versions.
And I'm supposed to say this, but you can probably download it (the old and new versions) somewhere on the net.
But in the end it's all down to personal taste when you decide which program to use.

I use Flash MX. I satisfied with it almost in all aspects... except for its lacks of image editing feature (which Flash is never intended to do that) and the maximum resolution being 2880x2880. Oh, and how the pen tool never make the exact line like I drew with my tablet.

Recently I install Photoshop Elements, a bonus bundled along with my tablet. Though I like its various image editing tools (hey, it is Photoshop) but I'm really disappointed with its pen tools (when making lineart). Flash do better job with its brush tool.

I heard SAI is the best when making crisp lineart. I think I'm going to try it if I could get one.

You could search there for tools.

Personally, my favourite is a combination of Paint tool Sai+Photoshop. Sometimes just Sai, lately.

Usually I use inkscape and gimp for characters.
But for the basic sketch I still use just a pencil and some paper (not to forget the eraser).
But I think it is mostly personal taste, which program someone perfers.

I know this was mentioned above but, I currently use Paint Tool SAI and Photoshop CS3, I have Elements and Illustrator but I guess SAI is best to be used in linearting and coloring...at least for a noob like me.lol.

OpenCanvas is also nice though i used it to sketch and practice only.

All in all, just use what you think you are more comfortable at. i think.

I love Sai for making Character designs. It is extremely intuitive and easy to use. It was originally made in Japan for anime-style, but has since been translated. (I love anything Japanese in origin) I use Gimp for transparencies though

I also have been looking for SAI for quite some time... but to no avail. I mean I look for the local retail store that sell it,since if online we could just google it.
