So, I have a rather ignorant question...

#1 Post by BishoujoBazooka »

I don't really have a CG Program for the graphics for the game I'm going to start working on as a short practice run my first time with Ren'py.
So, what I was wondering is if I can use hand-drawn artwork, and if it would look terrible and retina-burning or if Ren'py won't support those images. I have CorelPaint, but I'm not sure how in the world you could CG with that, because it's different from PS or OC.

Hehehehe, your sig cracks me up.

I admit it, I'm not sure what you mean by CG, OC, or PS, but for graphic editing, have you tried Gimp? It's a bit like Photoshop but free.

I've used .png and .jpg graphics with Ren'py, no problem. And retina burning is in the eye of the beholder... uh... that made no sense.

Hopefully we'll hear from someone who has had less sugar today than I have shortly. :)

Ah, thank you so much. <3 Me luff yew long time. XD

I'll check out Gimp, too. It sounds like it might work! -smile- CG is computer graphics, OC is OpenCanvas, and PS is Photoshop.
So, .png and .jpg are okay with Ren'py? That's good. I think I'll try both ways, too, just to see what I like better.

Er...I just had about two cupcakes. Shame on me.

As long as you can scan the image into your computer, you should be able to use it with Ren'Py. Though you'll probably need an image editor of some sort to resize, change transparency, etc...

Here are a bunch of different resources people have found:

Thank you Shirai. :) It's really nice of you to help a Ren'Ai nooblet like me out...I've played all the Ren'Ai games on this site, I think, so far, and I'm so excited about trying Ren'Py out for the first time.

NOTE: These boards use the same emotes as Gaia Online!

Double Post!! Double Post!!! Where's the mod?!

~_^

There are lots of tutorials online, I'm sure. Just google it. And there are probably some help files with the program too. Most people here can probably answer specific questions too

This can't be allowed to happen...

For starters, just scan your drawings and fool around with the various filters. Works wonders, especially with photographs for backgrounds. There should be several topics about this somewhere around here...

As for character graphics, that will be a bit tougher, but if you're not confident, start with the backgrounds/filters first. It's a very rewarding way to learn a program, it sort of does everything for you and you just apply cosmetic touches (or not).

Anyway, hang in there, and good luck.

I see. You all seem so experienced. XD It makes me feel so little and seldom!
Oh well, I'll just learn, and perhaps one day I can reach your level of game-making....I'm going to try rather hard!
I have a lot of time on my hands since I'm on holiday from school. But, anyway, about the graphics, I'm supposing it would be far easier with a tablet, would it not?
I have the money...er...and I don't actually know what I was saving for....and I have been needing one for quite a loong time, so perhaps I'll go buy one. :D

.png is preferred, and .jpeg is preferred for certain applications. Ren'Py should support every format SDL_image supports. The documentation for SDL_uimage claims that it supports "BMP, PNM (PPM/PGM/PBM), XPM, LBM, PCX, GIF, JPEG, PNG,
TGA, and TIFF formats".

I suggest limiting yourself to PNG and JPEG, though. GIF animation is _not_ supported.

Alright. :3 I really don't know how to do GIF so that counts me out of the non-er...supportation....
Thank you!
