I MOCK YOUR 640X400!

Anywho, testing of the new resolution is going very well. It looks a lot crisper and cleaner than when on the standard, although it does lose that when your resolution is lesser. I'm actual curious what the standard resolution is for the audience, but that is a question for a different thread. As for widescreen, while everyone in the studio uses widescreen, we all prefer working in full. Call it a confliction of interests, but... eh.

You could always make full-screen art and use wide-screen aspect ratio... then use this to your advantage.

There's not a whole lot cooler than a really dynamic novel game which moves the art around a lot. If you draw an image too big for the screen, you can pan around at runtime O.O

At least, that's what the most popular commercial games do~~~

I've been pondering the screen size too and the question I'm asking myself right now is whether it's better to scale up or scale down the screen sizes. Seeing as how Ren'Py can now resize the game screen to the actual screen size, I'm wondering if it's better to make a bigger game screen size like 1680 x 945 and have a higher quality picture for those who can see it rather than working with a 1024 x 600 and have the image be artificially resized and therefore losing the quality of the image. The only draw back to using a bigger game screen size is that the initial window of the game is too big for the screen before you put it into fullscreen mode.

What to you think?

Two more sprites done!

My son keeps commenting on my sprites. (In good hearted fun) There's the one that's a vampire, the one that is jaundiced, the one that is a zombie, and a few that are brain damaged since I can't draw the "other eye" so it looks the same size and the "first eye".

The game contains 247 screens of dialogue.
These screens contain a total of 3,030 words,
for an average of 12.3 words per screen.
The game contains 0 menus.
I think I'm about a third of the way done. Then comes the slash-and-burn -- I'm already making notes now for what to cut and clarify later. If my current guess is right, I'm guessing 7500 (give or take 250) words by the end of draft two.

There's a good chance this won't be done in time, but that might be for the best.

I finally finished the effin' long story, which I already sent to night_serenade for completion and proofreading. It was about 3600+ words, and it's going to be a kinetic novel. After exams, I'll be making sprites for the KN. Hope I finish it XD

Scripting is done for Mobile Food Madness, and I will say this: There is a way for Nekochan to win, a way for her to sorta win, and lots of ways for her to go straight to Bath. Think Abused Prisoner starts channeling Wile E Coyote, and you'll get an idea of what we're up to.
I'm going to get off my soap-box now, and let you get back to your day.

I had to actually write my own word count script ( >.o ) because something like a whole quarter of the game's writing is in a form that Lint doesn't count. Nice.

Code: Select all

scout$ python wordcount.py chapter1.rpy
6420
scout$ python wordcount.py chapter2.rpy
5079
scout$ python wordcount.py chapter3.rpy
484
...not that I really need it to tell me that I'm working really slowly. It's coming along, but given that there's going to be seven chapters, I need to slightly pick up the pace. On the plus side, it's one of those stories that gets easier to write as it goes along. My biggest problem has just been that the cast is so big, I wasn't quite sure what to do with all of them at the start. Chapter 2 took about half as long to finish as chapter 1 did.

In retrospect, maybe I should've thought of a story with a slightly smaller scale. Ah well, it'll be done! Even if it kills me! (It might.)

I think I'm almost done with one story path, only problem is I've been majorly sick the past few days so I haven't been able to work on NaNoRenO stuff. I know my health is more important but darnit I want to finish this :,c

I did manage to start and nearly finish the other romantic interest's sprites and another character's sprite set. Now all I need sprite wise is the Scientist dude's sprite set and Delilah's different emotions, thank goodness.

Edit: Earlier I read the discussion on window sizes, and I changed my game's window size from 800x640 to 800x600. It's such a small difference but I dislike how it looks/feels on my computer D:

I'm such a noob when it comes to stuff like this. Would you all hate me if I went back to 800x640? >>;
