Original Visual Novel Festival

The Visual Novel group I'm in on DA is holding a festival for original VN's, so I thought it might be a good idea to mention it on here. It's a sort of contest, and I thought it might be a good way to get some of us (myself included) motivated to work on our games.

Details can be found here: http://visualnovel.deviantart.com/blog/38812712/

Basically, the time frame is from now until June to submit a game (or game demo). There are also prizes for reviews, so even if you don't finish, you can still take part (and it's a good way to get exposure for your game, which is always a plus, right?).

By the way, if this is breaking any rules, I'll remove it. I just thought it might help other people get motivated, since it's got me motivated to work even harder on my own game. Hope to see lots of people enter! :D <3

I don't know if I will have the time myself, but I'm definitely hoping this will encourage people to try making new games. :] New games to play always makes me a happy camper, haha.

This way those who don't finish in time for NaNoRenO still get to enter their game somewhere.. :)

VNs only, kinetic is allowed, but dating sim or things that involve any advanced mechanisms (aka battles, mini games) are not allowed. This will make it fair for everyone so no games are "more interesting to play" only because there's more interaction.
BUT I -- BUT WHAT IF -- MAYBE JUST --

Ugh, fine. I won't enter. -_- Or finish some backburner project by June.

Haha, well, you can always do some reviewing of the games that get entered? :) <3

Yeah~ this will be a nice motivation to get my rear cranking with the arts and programing.
The VN itself cannot be longer than 1 hour in playtime.
That's like 20,000 words in a kinetic novel right?

Too bad I won't be able to enter either. OTL because they like- forbid any gameplay. :/ But I wish luck to everyone else who enters and I'm curious to see the results!!!

After hearing that others have game play in their games, they should add a festival for VNs that have game play after this one. It's just because a couple exist. :D

Perhaps they want to focus on story and graphics, not "gameplay"... since pure VN doesn't have any gameplay in the first place...

I consider an VN that's not kinetic to have gameplay. You have to make choices to get an ending you desire, and you may not get it -- that's a game.

I get why they're doing it, but they should have had different categories to keep it fair, because they're missing out on good graphics/stories by disallowing games, too.

Bah, I'm just disappointed. :(

I assume it's to keep things like Planet Stronghold out of the running, since that seems to be in line more with an RPG than VN (but that's a debate for another twitter stream). I'm not entirely sure if it would take a game like Jisei out of the running, though. Not like I'm planning to enter Jisei or anything. XD
