But I personally think that it's alright because it is one way of expressing what the character truly feels and would be able to convey it to the players with a solid impact. By the way, how did you use your bad language, casually or do you use it as an expression???

Well...
Let's just say Character A punched character B all of a sudden, then he was taken by surprise and he used that word. They ended up fighting each other and more of those kinds of words were used.
I'm only gonna use those words 2-4 times and all of those would be used for the fight scene.- platonicheart

Oh, then, it's just alright because the scene asks for it. And it seems that you would be using it with moderation so you shouldn't trouble yourself about it anymore.
This would be nothing to hard-core players anyways
(I count myself in)

Someone should make a game about Gene Hackman. That man curses beautifully.

Putting profanity in your games is a double edged sword. On one hand it adds a kind of gritty realism that shows a variety of emotion(provided you don't use it excessively, too much becomes tedious and it comes across as juvenile) and on the other hand you risk alienating some of your audience. Some people don't like profanity in their games so you may decrease your niche audience a bit.
Personally I don't mind it as long as it is used appropriately. I mean would you respect and like someone who can't stop cussing for a whole sentence?

Re: What do you guys feel about bad words on games?
This thread is awfully long. xD
When I was first writing my rock'n'roll VN, I avoided curse words. And then that got silly. These are modern punk rockers. They're not going to say "gosh darn" when they can just say what we all know what they actually want to say. Am I very aware of every F-bomb? Absolutely. Using it too much will come off as childish, as does any person who actually uses the word liberally. Impact is important, even in an environment where the characters would actually say it twenty times in one breath. When I re-read passages that aren't very dramatic or important, I try to replace any F-words with "screw" and S-words with "stuff." But again, just in scenes where the characters aren't really emotional. There's no reason to reach that level for stubbing your toe. It would just be distracting to the reader, like it was to even me, the writer.

Honestly, I don't think it should be THAT big of a deal if the personality of the character kind of calls for the foul language. (stereotypically, e.g. gangster, delinquent, etc)
& as long as it's not like the F word every sentence, I'm fine with it.

Haha, me, I'm really shy around back words in VN games... xD I have a difficulty incorporating any in my writing anyway, but some words just make me feel uncomfortable.

Nobody curses like Gene Hackman. I'm having trouble finding a good example of an outburst, but just to showcase how downright offensive he can be... here ya go.Suikama wrote:Man that reminds me, this is probably the best use of swearing I have ever seen in a film.

Another scenario I sometimes use bad words in are when 2 "mortal enemies" meet and fight.
Meaning, there are definitely scenes where they call for curse words.
